Further to my original post, regarding Service and Cam-belt change:
According to VW, the cost of replacing the cam-belt has increased by some £60.00 since the ending of their ‘offer’ – which prior to 30th June 2012 was £339.00 (now £399.00)
So, for those with a cam belt fitted (rather than the alternative chain) then the fourth year service is looking quite expensive.
Adding the cost of the service – in the region of:£279.00
Together with the cam-belt replacement of £399.00
And no doubt the Mot renewal will be required: circa £20.00 to £49.00 (depending on dealer)
In consequence, the overall costs are heading well into the far side of £700.00 – and that is WITHOUT any air-con renewal, brake fluid change -or other periphery items (brake pads etc)
There must be some owners with cars heading to year four who may be able to confirm – or refute the above figures.
Regards
Jeff

Re: 3 year Service: TDi 140 Costs
I'm about to have my 4th year service done on my '09 2.0TDI at the end of the month and I'm approaching 41,500 on the clock.
Having read here: http://www.volkswagen.co.uk/owners/serv ... ck-and-why and on the forum, it seems the cambelt (plus water pump) is a bit of an expense, but a bit of a must. Also want to get the Air Con done. Anyone been through the 4th year service on here who can confirm what was done to theirs and the costs? The service is getting done at an approved VW garage so I expect them to do everything they should (maybe wishful thinking
), but is there anything else I should be ensuring they do?
Already paid for the MOT and Service in a deal when I bought my car so hopefully that will ease the pain...a bit!

Re: 3 year Service: TDi 140 Costs
Hi all, first post here. I have a 2.0 TDi on a 2010 plate. I am looking into this cam belt change as looks due by reading forum etc. I have 82000 on the clock. I have spotted a £299 offer from VW main dealer in some parts of Cheshire and they quote that they will match any other garage within 5 miles for price.
Anyone got other offers or VW centres in Cheshire area with good prices
Thanks all.

Post 2.
Cam belt quoted on VW altrincham site states belt change every 5 years.
Their current offer is £299 and £349 with water pump but cheaper with quote from other garage with genuine VW parts
Any other joy on this

Re: 3 year Service: TDi 140 Costs
Mjatho,
I have actually ended up here because of a conversation with the VW dealers in Exeter. My car is a 2009 TDi 140 with 83k. The first time I called I was told a Longlife service would be £330. The second time I called after deciding to play them off against Taunton was £210 (Taunton said £300). Now I've called to confirm and I've been told £210 was incorrect and it should be £149.
As for the cambelt (which I have booked to be done) they quoted £399 without water pump or £449 with water pump. But they just tried to fox me for £499 for it.
At a wits end because even they don't understand the Longlife service regime and I'm pretty sure they just pull a price out of their back pocket and smile sweetly.
I'm waiting on a call back...
