Banging/Clatter Depress Clutch

Post by selleym »

Have noticed something strange for a while now. But had the windows down today and really heard it!

If I drive along in first gear to say mid rev range and push the clutch in quickly.
I hear a banging/clatter noise from the front.
Could this be some sort of mount issue?
As the engine has load on it then suddenly none. Which I would expect things to move around. But not a banging clatter.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Where is the banging/clatter coming from?

Is this coming from the clutch itself or do you think from something else in the drive train like drive shafts or bearings? It's a hard one to answer but I have had similar on a Landrover when the splines on the front drive shafts were worn, causing a clunking and general rattly slack feel when not under load.

I also get a banging similar going over bumps at low speed.
I have a feeling its related. Both similar sounding.
Sounds like its coming from the front maybe drivers hand side.
Hard to tell exactly when driving.

Thanks for the reply.

Both are hard to replicate at will though. Which is annoying!
As I have warranty left!

Get is sometimes when going from 1st to 2nd now. Just when i depress the clutch quickly.
It can be quite a loud clunky bang. Sounds very metallic.

Definitely be extending my Warranty last thing i need is for something to fall out of the car!

Any ideas?
