Rough running 2.0 tsi

Post by owen191 »

Hi all,

Ive seen plenty of threads about coil packs failing on the 2.0TSI. My car is currently juddering till around 2000 rpm in 1st, 2nd, 3rd and more noticeably 4th, this is only under light acceleartion/feathering the throttle. Ive tried a new coil pack swapping each one out in turn but the symptoms still seem to exist. I bought the car private a few weeks ago... wasnt noticeable during the test drive. Getting abit disheartened with it before ive really got used to it. It went to VW Ipswich during the week for a service and i asked them to have a look, they said there were no codes stored. There are no light on the dials showing a fault exists, not even an intermittant fault light.

Any suggestions on where to look next or what part to inspect?

Thanks

Did you replace all 4 spark plugs when you replaced coil pack?

No, I didnt replace any spark plugs, it had a new set not this service but the service before. Surely if a spark plug was at fault I would feel the stutter throughout the rev range???? Hmmm, worth a look I suppose. Thanks

Right, I've checked the plug on the post above, the socket has a broken bit of plastic, but still making good contact and plug and socket clicking together. Any other suggestions?

Have you tried pushing the wires into the plug and then driving it again? Or as in the thread jiggle the wires whilst running and see if it makes a difference. It would also be worth checking plugs, for carbon buildup or damage, as well as correct gaps.
Plus are you running it on super/high octane petrol?
It maybe an intermittent fault, so if doesn't go out of tolerance it won't generate an error code until it gets worse.
That's modern cars for you!!

ahh ok will have to give this a try! Yes i'll have to whip the plugs out and have a look aswell. Bit of a mix of fuels if im honest, sometimes bp ultimate sometimes just 95. I should probably just stick to one type! I have since put some Redex fuel system/injector cleaner into the fuel to see if that helps, in a farfetched hope this starts to sort things.

I always use high octane, normally tesco momentum or shell when I can. Ran it on normal unleaded for the first few months of ownership, not realising! I find it runs better now. Not a fan of BP though, probably not much difference to be honest.
The missus has an A2 and that hates regular unleaded to the point you can really feel the difference.
Good luck getting it sorted.

I've been having same problem and it turned out to be a coil which was on its way out but not quite! I ordered a set of 4 from awesomeGTI for £85 pound, but while waiting it went completely and brought up all the warning lights.

I finally got the time to have another look at the car. Removed all 4 spark plugs, all 4 had a very slight dusting of soot, which I pressume normal, 2 of the 4 werent particularly tight in the head. I have torqued them all to 28NM. The judder doesnt seem as pronounced as it did, but im not sure if its due to the weather being a tad warmer/not a early morning start. Any where else to look?
