Intercoolers

Post by Stu13R »

I know there is a lot of info over the years but wanted to come back to the best intercooler option again. So many owners have moved to bigger power outputs so I am hoping we have some better collective data.

One thing I am interested in is the Forge twintercooler. I know it has had mixed reviews, but my question is if anyone has used something like a APR or Pro Alloy OEM replacement and a twintercooler.

Also does anyone run a charge cooler and an intercooler on here?

Thanks Wigit I will check it out. Shame there isn't a comparison guide to show the differences between them and performance figures.

I see the APR unit is about 50% more expensive than the competition and just wondered if the cores are made the same way.

I can't find any dealers with them on their sites and a price.

I notice they are matt black, which I assume is better for losing heat, but if that is the case how come all the others I have seen are silver?

After the recent exposure of apr exhaust systems I wouldn't ever touch anything from apr.

Let the quality of the core do the talking and forget about the colour

Some great results on these compared to the rest

Colour didn't bother me, just I had read the black had better heat loss. I am sure there is next to nothing in it and I wonder what a black one would look like after a year of grit hitting it?

Not sure how true it is but have been told the Forge unit is virtually identical and one or the other copied the design.

Yes I heard from JKM in Portsmouth that Pro Alloy are really good. How much are you paying?

It would not matter as the intercooler is compacted between the A/C condensor (first) and the Water Radiator (third).

Peron is the best intercooler. It's also, BY FAR, the most expensive. So not worth it for most people.

Darkside will supply TFSI pipes. It's exactly the same as a THS Intercooler which sell for about £500 and are usually drooled over.
At the end of the day most intercoolers come from China just with a brand name on them.

I am really happy with mine they are a great bunch of guys there with some seriously fast cars. His the link to the website with some pics of my R when they fitted it and did there testing. The quality is 10x better than any of the other mass produced coolers you find made in China etc .

^ For that price I would be 100% buying a Peron.. lol.

"All prices shown exclude VAT at the current rate"

So that's £600 PLUS vat.
No thanks.

Peron is around that including vat From Alex, think it may even be a tad less now.

I didn't pay full price as my friend works there but you pay for what you get at the end of the day.

To a point.
On a stage 1 or 2 car you won't notice much of an improvement over a THS/Darkside S3/Ebay intercooler.
When you start pushing 30+psi and 450+ BHP then you will no doubt notice.

Given the money, Peron is where I would be spending it.
That being said my Darkside S3 one has given me good gains.

But you can't test for pressure drop, if you're putting 2bar out the turbo and only 1.4 bar at the other end of the intercooler then you have a problem.
Unfortunately there's not really much in the way of test data.
