My R 2011 gave 274whp with GIAC stage 1 and 301whp with GIAC stage extreme (2,5+).

Re: Tdi going and new R arriving
If the engines the same as pre-facelist then won't stage 1 on a facelift be the same as stage 1 on a pre-facelift? But with VW already giving you another 15bhp the difference from stock will be 15bhp less?
Or does VW's 15bhp come from somewhere else so stage 1 facelift is 15bhp more than stage 1 pre-facelist?

Extra 15hp comes from the flippy vw badge on the backchelspeed wrote:If the engines the same as pre-facelist then won't stage 1 on a facelift be the same as stage 1 on a pre-facelift? But with VW already giving you another 15bhp the difference from stock will be 15bhp less?

Re: Tdi going and new R arriving
the engine has been around for ages in tune from 230ps to 280ps depending what it has been in, whilst you won't get a lot more power the torque increase you will notice as will be far stronger in the mid range

Re: Tdi going and new R arriving
I spoke to JKM in Portsmouth today and they said Stage one Revo with a VWR induction kit gives 310hp, which as some of you have said is probably about right.
They did say I could fit an intercooler at the same time, but better to wait till I get a stage 2 remap before fitting a turbo back exhaust system or it messes with one of the sensors. Stage 2 is not available for the facelift yet, but should be in 3 months ish. I forgot to ask what they expect to get from a stage 2.

Yeah spot on wigit. I just checked their site and it also shows the stage 2+ is up to 370hp if you fit the APR uprated fuel pump with is just over £800.wigit wrote:they will make about 330 on Stage 2
Re: Tdi going and new R arriving
i know its spot on as i had a cdl engine in my Ed35 which Revo used development so not a lucky guess, a bit like recent posts on these threads
i've not drawn into the debate of Rocco R v Golf R as one in my view is vastly superior

Re: Tdi going and new R arriving
lol, one is a bit quicker but not nearly as good looking. If you don't mind looks then a GTR is a great car for performance.wigit wrote:i know its spot on as i had a cdl engine in my Ed35 which Revo used development so not a lucky guess, a bit like recent posts on these threads

Both cars are good mate but i wouldn't pick a pig ugly gf if she could run quick laps round the block.

Wigit I thought you won't be drawn I to the Golf v Roc debate?wigit wrote:one car is a coupe one car is a performance hatchback and a way better drivers car

40 k gets an 18 month old Nissan GTR with 10k on the clock. Just as ugly as a Golf, way better drivers car and far more exclusive.
I have a friend with a GTR and his gf said my RLine looked way better.
Re: Tdi going and new R arriving
taken a while for the used GTR to be thrown into the mix, what about used 911s that come into the mix, TT-RS even new shape Caymans
My comments are based on having owned a scirocco, admitidly that was a wile ago, driven some highly turned ones in the interim and now having a brace of ugly ducklings,
the looks thing are going to be subjective, there is no denying the better handling and performance, real opposition is the Megane RS to the R if liquid yellow is your thing
The looks card is a bit yawn and your gf will be even happier with you having a R, end of the day £32k for a car with its chassis dating back from 2003 seems a bit steep, Rocco mk4 is when it gets interesting but let's hope for 4wd
Have chucked plenty of mods to Roccos and golfs to make them handle and take additional power, the 7R has only been lowered, also Stage 1 performance means a car that feels and sounds oem whereas a stage 2/2+ feels far from it and often you end up with a car that bares no resemblance to the one you bought
The game has just moved on, once you have it pop up the A34 for a track day and we can compare notes

Re: Tdi going and new R arriving
Hi Wigit, yes I would be interested in a track day and I'm sure your car is really good.
Your right things will be interesting in 2 years when mk4 is released and I have read it will be the same platform with 4wd.

Re: Tdi going and new R arriving
I doubt they will ever make the Scirocco 4wd purely for the fact the Golf is their bread and butter and they want to keep the Golf R as the flagship model.

Re: Tdi going and new R arriving
Maybe that's true, but if they are built on the same platform it would be possible to convert the Roc to 4wd with enough dosh.Cuprabob wrote:I doubt they will ever make the Scirocco 4wd purely for the fact the Golf is their bread and butter and they want to keep the Golf R as the flagship model.

Re: Tdi going and new R arriving
Of course if it's build on the same platform it can support.but remember the current Scirocco is built on the same platform as the.MK5 Golf.and that supports.4wd, in the guise of the R32 and S3, to name a few.

Re: Tdi going and new R arriving
How is this for mad, I had fully comp on the 177hp 2.0Tdi R-Line worth £20k and the insurance was £550,00 a year.
I went through Prestige for the 280hp R worth £37k with the spec and told them to take into account alloys & future exhaust, air intake, intercooler and remap to 330-370hp. I was really shocked when they said it was only £492 with Prestige.
