Thinking of selling my Viper
Thinking of selling my Viper
So I have now had the car for a couple of months and really do love it, however the cost of petrol to run it is a lot more than i anticipated and for the start stop driving that i do (3 miles bumper to bumper back and forth to work everyday) i don't really get to enjoy it.
So just throwing it out there incase anyone is interested before i bite the bullet and put it on autotrader, details as below:
2009 2.0 TSI GT, VIPER
31,000 miles
Painted black roof, rims and wing mirrors
Has media player, SD card slot, 6 CD changer (can have bluetooth retrofitted i believe)
Full VW service history with invoices and stamps, MOT not due until summer.
I can advise price on contact. Should anyone be interested contact me on here or drop me an email

So 6 miles a day? And you are finding it expensive to run? Really lol. Even with how cheap petrol has got recently?

I do about 100 miles a week minimum and that only costs me about 25-30 a well even less as tesco's momentum petrol is £1.06 a litre!

Its not necessarily the expense its more the economy, yes i know if i wanted an economic car i should'nt have gone for the Scirocco! I have done around 200 miles from £50 in petrol, and when prices rise again, which they will, this will become less economically viable. Im looking at a 1 series diesel 140bhp but urban mpg of 55 instead of low 20's!whiteDevil_170 wrote:So 6 miles a day? And you are finding it expensive to run? Really lol. if your averaging low 20s either you are thrashing the shit out of it or somethings wrong with the car. Never heard of people getting low 20s.o.smith wrote:Its not necessarily the expense its more the economy, yes i know if i wanted an economic car i should'nt have gone for the Scirocco! I think my average on this run is around 24, but i am sat in traffic which is stop start. I could probably drive more economically as well

3 mile journeys are not going to allow the car to get up to operating temperature, hence why your economy is so poor. That would be the case for any car with such short journeys.
What you want is something like.an Up! for that sort of journey.
In fact I've been using my Up! this week due to the snow and it's ideal for commuting in stop start traffic.

Haha thanks, that made me laugh! Though its re-assuring to be given a decent reason as to why its so poor, still considering a diesel one series found a nice 120d M same 0-60 as scirroco but states urban of 45 mpgCuprabob wrote:3 mile journeys are not going to allow the car to get up to operating temperature, hence why your economy is so poor. Not having a go here, but a diesel on a 3 mile run would be very poor economics as well. As stated above, temps would not have risen sufficiently to get optimum consumption and could lead to further DPF related issues unless taken on longer journeys.
Re: Thinking of selling my Viper
I do tend to do longer runs on the weekend but nothing too far. I only used to get 27mpg from my 1.4 Astra so i guess its more the nature of my journeys as opposed to poor economy. Maybe ill reconsiderskippy wrote:Not having a go here, but a diesel on a 3 mile run would be very poor economics as well. Re: Thinking of selling my Viper
Just to warn you if you're considering a diesel, the diesel engines would need more of a run than 3 miles of stop start traffic a day. Without a good drive/warm up they'll suffer from carbon build up which can wreck the engine. If your looking for economy then a smaller petrol engine would be better for your type of driving.. would also be smoother for traffic driving. I don't think you'll see much of difference though because no matter what car you're in, traffic will eat into your MPG!

What you need

On a serious note probably not worth changing car you wont save much on such short mileage. Unless you go hybrid or electric but the buying costs for that will outweigh the savings by far!
If you enjoy it at the weekend that all that matters
and that when you look at it you go

Re: Thinking of selling my Viper
But that urban figure of 45 is based on the car being at operating temperature. It will be much less in reality as diesels take longer than petrols to get to operating temperature. Also a modern diesel is not suitable for short journeys as it leads to DPF issues as they don't get a chance to regenerate.o.smith wrote:Haha thanks, that made me laugh! Edit: I see Skippy has already made the points I'm making.
