Hello guys, I am on the lookout for a Scirocco R - and today the one was for sale, Black Scirocco R - The only one for sale I've seen in 5 months now, I must get it.
But what flaws, what problems should I look for? DSG I'm fairly certain what to look for, but does it have any flaws otherwise? The DSG6 should be strong gearbox if it's propperly taken care off, right?
Please anything you can think of i have to look for, thanks!
Might buy an Scirocco R tomorrow! What to look for?

Well I can't think of anything which is an inherent weakness, so you are looking at the usual things for a sports car? Such as
Body damage, esp underneath
That all electrics work
Wheels and tyres, condition and brand will tell you a lot about how it's been looked after
As you already have a scirocco , u know to look for windows dropping ok, rear hatch bump stops etc
Make sure belt and water pump has been done if an early one
And for dsg, that is changes smoothly, has had the required oil changes on time etc
The only engine specific piece is the PCv for the engine crankcase, manifests as an uneven idle, and costs 30 quid to fix.

Thanks alot SMB!
how would I know if the belt and waterpump has been done? It's been fully serviced by VW, its from 2010, done 64k kilometers, (50k miles?)
Wheels are the originals, and tyres are Continental.
DSG oil was changed at 55k (42k miles I think)
It has a scrape on the very front bumper a small one, but that's it, no scratches anywhere else, it seems taken care of, except for the steering wheel is blank, but I heard the 'magic sponges' works wonders on that, I suppose its either wrong leather conditioner, or sweat from hands.
What's wrong with rear hatch bump stops? I didnt have any problems with my old one.
The DSG Changes smoothly, has a more distinct bite when starting out from standstill than my 1.4 DSG 7 had, which seems because of the power rampup, and maybe the difference between DSG 7 and 6 perhaps?

The bump stops on the hatch do have a tendency to break, I have had 2 go myself. Fortunately they are cheap to replace (about £5 each), but do seem to be a little fragile. That is generic by the way - not 'R' specific. I guess the design of them may have been improved on later models, not sure.

At 64k km that's nearer 41k miles, belt change should be listed in a garage work sheet, if not assume it not been changed and budget £400-500 to have it done.
