Sound at Idle

Post by Kewster »

Hi Guys,

I need your advice please. I have a 2012 scirocco 1.4TSI 118kw with 25,000km logged.
About a year ago it started making a noise at idle. It was intermittant and seemed noticeable when the temperature was colder. It seemed to originate at pedal level, but outside the vehicle somewhere in the tunnel between driver and passenger.
Naturally when it went to the agent for service it did'nt produce the noise.

However I persisted in trying to describe it to the diagnostic technician. He reckoned it was the high pressure fuel pump and that I should'nt be concerned. He did show the pump's location to me, which at the time seemed too high in the engine bay to be the source of the noise. It's towards the firewall on top of the motor (according to the component he showed me).

Its got louder and is now clearly audible everytime the vehicle is at idle. It seems to be directly in front of the driver, almost behind the dashboard. It sounds a bit like the sound of a diesel engine at idle, sought of a "clatter" or regular "tuk tuk tuk". The moment you touch the accelerator, even engaging the clutch and allowing the idling engine speed to move the vehicle, it dissapears entirely and does'nt appear whilst driving. It also is not present in the first minute from startup, however, as soon as the automatic choke closes and the engine returns to idle speed it starts.
Any ideas fellows? Should I be concerned about this?

Went got the alloys done whipped it up on the lift heres the pics
Take note to the hollow area fill with foam sheeting really simple fix, fuel pumps demanding fuel the black fuel line is the problem.
Not any more!
