Post by SimplyRB »

Hi guys apologies if this has already been covered
I've got into topics but can't find 3 definitive answers

1) my rcd510 has a setting that says activate Bluetooth ive seen that this is standard but vw say there is no way to update software to just activate it ? Is this true?

2) if i want NAV I NEED A RNS 315 or 510 but which is best I do not care about dab

3) with both of the rns can I get Bluetooth to work and all steering wheel
Functions ?

4) do nav disks work and if I buy a pioneer or kenwood will it work with my steering wheel?

1) to use bluetooth in your car, you need a bluetooth module/box installed. Bluetooth doesnt come installed internally in the headunit

2)Rns510 is better - bigger screen

3) if you buy the RNS, you still need to buy and install the bluetooth module

4) nav discs have to be for the RNS. Yes, I believe pinoeer and kenwood units can be made to work with the steering wheel. All you need is the correct harness I think

Ok thanks so apart from the bigger screen the 315 is the same? And with the Bluetooth can U get in installed with either the 315 or 501 rather than having hat little add on screen? I want it all to work through the stereo

The RNS510 probably differs in functionality, but the main advantage is the screen (in my opinion). So if you feel you prefer the RNS315, then why not?

This is an example of the bluetooth module; it works with both RNS devices. It isn't an extra screen, it's a box you have to install. There is an installation guide on here.

You can also choose to get the FISCON option.. Do a forum search on FISCON, it's a worthy alternative to solving bluetooth issues
