Water Ingress

Post by dpsbiker »

Hi, I'm loving driving my 2014 GT BMT in arguably the best colour (Deep Pearl Black) but seem to have developed an issue with it. I thought it was my imagination at first but I am definitely getting water collecting in the drivers footwell, the wife thinks its because I wash it too often (as if!) but I dryed it out yesterday and after last nights heavy rain its sodden again this morning. The dealer was very apologetic when I spoke to them and booked it in for investigation but just wondered if anybody else has encountered anything like this?

Cheers.

Not on my Roc, no.

Closest I ever experienced was on a 2002 Beetle where the sunroof drainage channel got blocked and the rain ended up flooding INSIDE the roof and it found its way out behind the passenger seat.
Do you have a sunroof?

Failing that, possibly a dodgy seal at the base of the windscreen or poss a leaf blocking a drainage point under the front of the screen?

Had this with a new Ford a while ago. They had fitted the wrong length drain tube to the sunroof in one corner and it all drained into the car! Sound as though it might be coming in via the front wiper housing. Hope you get it sorted quickly now that summer is over.

Ive had it recently on my 2010 Scirocco. When I got the car I noticed some marks on the roof lining however I just ignored it and thought the previous owner must have been a smoker or something!

Then we had some heavy rain and I noticed that the was soaked through! I took it back to the dealers and they sorted it out for me. Turned out to be a seal gone around some electrical area on the boot. This was replaced/repaired and the roof lining all cleaned up and it looks as good as new now!

With yours being a new car, it's probably just a seal not fitted correctly somewhere - I would worry about it too much as I'm sure the dealers will sort it for you.

There's no sunroof fitted on mine and its not been anywhere where leaf blockage is likely to be responsible. I'm looking forward to getting it sorted though as if its anything like my previous A6 there are electronic components under the carpet that really don't like being submerged.

Thanks for your replies, when I do find out what the problem is I'll let you know.

Just seen this post and may have an answer
The drain channels under the bonnet are notorious for clogging up on VW's - both my Polo and 1.6 Golf and my dad's passat did the same until I unclogged the drain holes either side of the inner bulkhead
As leaves and stuff fall into these channels regularly they break down and form a kind of soil - this blocks the drain channel and as a consequence the water that is supposed to run away can't - so it flows over the bulkhead - down the back of the pedals and into the footwells - it's an easy remedy - scoop out the detritus, use a kitchen skewer or length of wire coat handler and prod about until the water gurgles out. Then once a year check them and you should be fine !

Problem diagnosed - apparently the air conditioning drain off plug wasn't connected properly, its been fixed but it needs new carpets and some trims so those have been ordered and should arrive tomorrow. Fingers crossed I get my Rocc tomorrow, the courtesy car is very sweet (UP! Groove model) to drive but the engine is very flat.
