1.4 tsi rough idle

Post by Chazzaboy »

Alright guys,

I am just after some advice here.....I have the 1.4 tsi scirocco remapped and I encountered the dreaded misfire a couple of weeks ago. I took the car to the garage and told me cylinder 1 and 4 were misfiring so I changed all 4 coil packs and now it seems to have fixed the issue, but......I am still getting a rough idle. Every time I stop at lights you can feel in the cabin the car rocking and thudding intermittently. Is this normal? Has anyone come across this before?

Thanks a lot

How many km do you have ?

A buddy of mine has the same issue in his Golf 1.4 TSi. He's done some digging, sent me this link a while ago. It might be of some help to you :)

Thanks for the replies guys! That article is extremely helpful and a bit worrying! My car makes the exact noise in the second video so I think timing chain is my problem unfortunately!

Looks like I'll have to invest or sell before it gets any worse. I really
Hope I don't have to sell it!

Don't take too long to make your mind up as it gets noisier then goes without warning. Diagnosis by VW dealer at this stage will be cheaper than a new engine at £6000 and should attract some support from VW customer service if it is the timing chain and/or tensioner.

More info to consider from the golf GTI forum about the 2.0 litre TSi:
