Water Leak

Post by J22YME »

I've only had my car just under a month now and unfortunately had an issue!

When I got the car I noticed a slight stain on the roof lining towards the rear of the car. Initially I thought nothing of it and then presumed the previous owner may have been a smoker and this was just a smoke stain.

One day when we had heavy rain, I noticed that the lining was soaked through - It was about a foot deep and the width of the whole roof. Looking around the rest of the roof then, I could see very faint stains where I can only presume the entire roof lining has been soaked through at some point!

The garage have taken the car back and seem to think the leak was coming from the arial.

Has anyone else ever had this problem? When buying cars in the past looking at the roof lining is something I've never done!

Years ago I bought a secondhand Astra and that leaked in heavy rain. I took it to the dealer who discovered that a replacement windscreen had not been fitted properly.

Once refitted it was ok.

Sounds entirely feasible that the leak on yours is from the aerial aperture, maybe it was replaced and not fitted properly?

It's all sorted now! They told me that it was a worn seal on the boot for some wiring.

They've cleaned the roof lining twice and it's pretty much unnoticeable now!

Glad you got it sorted. Not something you'd think to check really!

I bought a Clio as my first car years ago and the carpet was squelching. Turns out the water drains on the bonnet had gotten clogged with leaves and water was coming into the floor.
