Hi guys,
I have something that has been bugging me for sometime now.
A bit of background (not relating to the thread title):
I have installed an RNS510 into my 'roc. On start up in the morning, or after >2hrs, I believe the RNS510 should start up with the VW welcome screen. If it doesnt (and goes straight to playing music), I have read somewhere that it means your CANBUS doesn't really idle and this could cause battery drain issues (mostly in older cars).
Now, coming to what I was going to ask: I notice my RNS510 rarely starts with the welcome screen, it just skips straight to radio. However, my car is 2010, and I have never struggled to start it in the morning.
This got me thinking - I wonder if my CANBUS is on all the time?! And naturally, I've started to worry as I dont want to wake up to a dead car battery anytime soon.
I started going through a list of possibilities in my head, and I thought about the AUTO window closing. I believe some people have applied this tweak via VCDS; does anyone know the inner workings of it?! I mean, for the wiper sensor to be active>sense rain>close window etc etc while the ignition is off, the CANBUS has to be live right?! I wonder if it goes passive-----active------passive------active etc every so often.
Hmmm, just thinking out loud and hope someone knows what I am rambling about

Re: CANBUS and Auto window closing
Hmmm, Probably not the auto window closing, as I turned off my wipers and it made no difference to the RNS start up.
I definitely have a post L revision Can Gateway as well. I might test the CANBUS output using VCDS
