Scirocco door wont open from the inside

So, someone smashed my car mirror clean off, I decided to fit the mirror myself, as it seemed a simple task, then I realised I had to take my door panel off... So the mirror is on, and working fine... BUT
1. The panel doesn't match up with how it should with the car...
2. THE CAR WONT OPEN FROM THE INSIDE DRIVERS SIDE... Is this due to the car panel not being on properly? or could it be any sort of electrical fault? Could someone post a tutorial or any advice on what plug is what inside the door panel, and and advice and the actual fitting of the door panel to see if I missed any steps.

The latch for the internal handle is cable operated - I'd suspect that the cable isnt clipped in to the handle properly ?

The plugs on the inside only fit in one place. The door latch has a mechanical opening mechanism. Maybe you forgot to attach the steel cable to the handle.
