Tyre Pressures!

Post by jc74 »

Note on the standard tyre pressures for both 17" and 18" are:-
2 People = 2.3bar front, 2.3bar rear
4 People + luggage = 2.5bar front, 2.9bar rear

Anyway, with a long journey ahead, I thought I'd check the pressures since it's been a week since delivery...
They were set at 3.25bar for all tyres!
I thought the ride was a bit kind of hard!
Anyway, seeing as the dealers think it's better to over inflate, I've set them for 4 people plus luggage, even though most of the time it's 1 or 2 people in the car, though very occasionally will have 3 or 4 people.
What's people's opinions, should I set for 2 people, 4 people, or somewhere in between? - Obviously I don't want to be inflating my tyres every time before I give people a lift!

Remember to only measure the tire pressure with cold tires.

If You give it 0.2 more than recommended, You get marginally better fuel economy.
If You give it much more than that, then the ride and road-noise will be noticeably worse. And You risk wearing the tires more in the middle.

Very good point! I know in the past it can add another few points of a bar
Though this time, the car hadn't been used for a day, so wasn't a factor.
I was just posting, so other people know not to assume that the dealers will provide the correct tyre pressures upon delivery!

Type ?? bar in psi into Google (replacing ?? with the bar figure) and it will convert it for you.

It's written in the fuel cap flap.
For 17/18's

2ppl
2.3 bar/33psi front
2.3 bar/33psi rear

4ppl
2.5 bar/36psi front
2.8 bar/42psi rear
(I think from memory - just check the fuel cap and correct me if I'm wrong)
