Start Stop Not Working!

Post by gdroberts78 »

Hi All

New to the board so a big hello to you all.

I've recently bought a 2013 Scirocco R Line in Candy White with the 140ps Bluemotion engine. Absolutely love the car!

However, in the past week, I've noticed that the auto start / stop fails to kick in. I'm doing nothing different to before but the symbol appears on the dash to indicate it's not available.

Any ideas???

Thanks in advance.

Could it be that with the colder weather coming it's not up to temperature or their is a greater load on the battery. From my understanding battery has to be 100% and car fully up to temperature for it to become available.

Try taking it for a long run and see if it becomes available, if not back to dealer to have it checked.

I concur with Bob - it will only kick in if battery is at a suitable charge level - a sort of intelligent system !

The handbook gives loads of reasons why the Start Stop wouldn't work, so could be any one of them. Maybe the heater was on?

Off the top of my head it won't cut in if the engine isn't up to temp, the exterior temp is too low or high, if the air conditioning temperature you've set hasn't been reached, the battery isn't in tip-top shape, steering wheel is near or at full lock or you're on a steep gradient. Probably loads more but as Gray says check the manual for all the rest.

Thanks guys, it now seems to have kicked back in. Still learning the car and now know that even if the wipers, heater, etc, is on it won't kick in. Aside from that, absolutely love the car!
