G13 coolant additive

Post by skyblues11 »

Hi all!

was driving down the M6toll when the coolant light came on. With other issues on hand, i did not read the manual with a cool head, and drove to into a local skoda dealer to ask for help.

It appeared that the engine was fine( temp. needle was never more than 90s C) but the coolant level was too low, and gravity had triggered the low level sensor.

they filled it with a skoda branded coolant called G13 undiluted, and i was off again.

having read up on this afterwards, the manual said i have to use the G12 or G12++. Does this mean i got the wrong coolant?

Did some research and it seems the G13 is only an environmentally ''çleaner'' product, compared to the G12s. No particular advances/ changes to its spec or function.

I could not find anything to say whether the G13 is compatible with a scirocco engine either.

should i remove it and buy some G12/++, or it is ok to carry on using the G13?

please help. thanks

G13 is compatible with and is the replacement for G12 and G12++ so no need to worry.

It's roughly the same stuff but more environmentally friendly.

"G13 coolant additive provides the same exceptional cooling and antifreeze performance as G12++, but is manufactured in an environmentally sustainable way, using glycerin instead of glycol. Glycerin, a bi-product of biodiesel production, is much less harmful to the environment than glycol-based products, which are produced from mineral oil. In comparison with the manufacture of traditional coolant additive, it is estimated that G13 production will produce 11 per cent lower CO2 emissions."
