Buying Advice: Scirocco TDI 140 Bluemotion Tec
Hello to all members. Very glad to have found Scirocco Central. It’s a great site with lots of information.
We’re hoping to order a TDI140 Bluemotion Tec via Orangewheels within next few weeks for my wife (after several weeks convincing her it’s a better choice than a BMW 118D Sport!)
I love the GT version but can’t afford so trying to get something close in appearance & would really appreciate any help & advice on colour & accessories:
- Salsa Red or Candy White – would either be better at resale time?
- 65% or 90% privacy glass for rear / side rear - not sure which is most common & looks best?
-Rear camera – is this a reasonable alternative to rear parking sensors? Driver alert aid – wife recommends - in case I get a chance to drive it?
-Interlagos alloys c£400 extra over standard Longbeach rims yet both seem similar in the Scirocco brochure?
- Any other accessories which you would consider over & above the items mentioned?
We’re going to get mats, mud flaps & scuff plates after we take delivery.
Apparently it takes between 10 & 12 weeks for factory orders so late November delivery. January 2014 registration would be ideal but Q4 registration probably required to get discount. If we order in Q4 the current discount may be reduced.

Welcome to the Forum - I hope you will find the information here useful and the experience a fun one!
Colour - very personal - but Salsa Red is not that popular - I would suggest go for CW if you are concerned about re-sale. Salsa is also a bit of a dull colour but if you really like it....
90% tinted glass is a relativley new option so very few people will have it - I would suggest go with the 65% which is standard on the GT.
Parking sensors are rear only on the Roc so the camera is viable alternative - I had it on my last Golf and loved it....
Consider adding folding mirrors and cruise control as they are useful options and a pain to fit afterwards. fogs make the standard car look better too.
Wheels- can be changed later so maybe go with standard 17" and upgrade later. I think ordering items as options that are tricky to add later is the way to go.
I went down the route of ordering a new 122PS last year and specced it to look like a GT. At the last minute I realised it was a mistake and bought my current car (then 11 months old) for the same money - and very happy with it!
Discounts - whatever you are offered now will be available in a months time and in three months time - possibly even more as winter is a less busy time in the dealerships. Please don't get taken in by any notion that the car will be more expensive unless you order now....

Re: Buying Advice: Scirocco TDI 140 Bluemotion Tec
Welcome !
I would go for white over salsa red anyday. I find the red is dull on a new car and would fade quite quickly.
If you was buying through orangewheels you've got to be saving at least £2000 so why not just buy a gt. it's worth it for the extra spec and come resale it will be worth more.
Parking sensors is a must as the rear view is poor.
Rear view camera would be a good option.
Folding mirrors aswell , wish I had them.
The way I see it is why spec a car up to be like something it's not. You might aswell have just got the GT .. Plus with gt you get interlagos, leather seats and satnav standerd.

All advice appreciated.
The price difference after discounting is approx.£2,300 so that even after adding camera, tinted glass etc net difference is £1900. Both models now include satnav.

Agreed yours isn't but I imagine you take care of the paintwork. Every salsa I have seen on the road is nothing like yours. They are all Very dull .Rob wrote:Really? Mines rather shinyMark V wrote: Salsa is also a bit of a dull colour but if you really like it....

The point being made is that Salsa Red (even when new) is a dull shade of red compared with say Tornado Red - its seems to have a slightly pinkish tone which has a somewhat dulling effect on it...
