Decisions : vcds lead or tdi tuning box

Post by whiteDevil_170 »

So iv worked overtime at work and now got some cash to spend and wana buy something for the car but I can't decide between buying a genuine vag com lead from genden for £208 or buying a tuning box from http://www.tdi-tuning.co.uk/car_and_van ... P2268.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ..

Now I know most of you will say just remap the car. But car is on pcp so I don't think I can plus don't want to void warrenty. With the tunning box it's just a case of plug in and done. Simply unplug when car is going into vw for anything. They would never know?

Any thoughts are welcome

Yes but that's a different one to the one I was looking at. The one I was looking at only has one connection and involves just taking engine cover off and plugging in. I believe yours does that and has to be plugged in to something at the bottom of the engine. It's quicker to for me to et the other one.

Jordan's box does indeed have the boost pressure sensor connection but it doesn't have to be connected. I've got one of those boxes and it really does make a big difference to the performance and fuel consumption. When the boost sensor is connected though it makes the power delivery a lot more smooth.

Depending on the year of your car it is either at the top of the engine or the bottom, click the link at the bottom of my post and I have posted a guide.

Depends what you need VCDS for really... See this thread, very comprehensive summary from the late GREAT RW1. This was the thread that ultimately made my decision for me!

If you need it just to do small tweaks, I'd say save your money for some tyres etc, and find someone near who can help! It's an expensive cable to gather dust.

I use mine to monitor errors when they pop up, make sure nothing is critical or will affect drivability; I do this by performing an autoscan every month.
Also it's a great help when performing mods like bluetooth install and folding mirrors, or installing a navigation unit
