Mobil 1 0w–40

Post by john_w »

Just a quick question, I know the recommended oil for my engine (2.0 tsi) is 5w–30 but would there be any harm in using 0w–40? I don't know a thing about oil or what the numbers and letters stand for, just that I've got about 25 litres of the Mobil one stuff in my garage and wandered if I could use it?! Thanks in advance, John

The first number is the cold viscosity and the second number is the warm viscosity. 0w40 will be thinner when cold and thicker when warm than 5w30.

The other thing to take into account is that the oil must meet VW Spec. VW504.00/507.00

Personally i wouldn't use any other viscosity or spec of oil other than recommended.

I'm sure VW502.00/Vw505.00 is OK as long as it's on Time & Distance regime and changed every year or 10k miles.

I still wouldn't vary from the recommended viscosity.

Best guy to speak to is oilman at Opie Oils.

Low viscosity helps battery turn engine and flow quickly around engine when cold, down side is if gaskets sump ect are not 100% will leak oil
