RCD 510 Help

Post by candyboytsi210 »

Right guys, how we doing?

My dad has a skoda VRS that he is selling this week, he has a RNS-510 Unit i believe, its the same screen as the RCD-510 but with sat nav option and dvd. so i want to know if its possible to swap these units over. so he can sell the vrs with the rcd, and put the rns into the scirocco.. im pretty sure its do able, i just want confirmation from someone with this knowladge.

1. wont skoda signs come up on start up
2. will the lighting be green on the buttons
3. isit possible to change over
4. isit a difficult thing to do if i go to a store that can deal within this

thanks in advance

I can answer the final 2 questions, but only from a 'roc perspective.

3) It is possible to changeover from RNS510 to RCD510 - the plugs should be a straight swap. Remember to take out the GPS antenna for the RNS510 when you remove it
4) It's not a difficult thing to do - it's highly dependent on the SKODA interface of course. If you can pop the trim covering the radio off, then you just undo the 4 torx screws holding the unit in

I've seen a video of one of these units on a bench being recoded with a PC and when switched on it comes up with the Skoda logo, so guess this is part of the firmware of the unit and not dependent on what vehicle it is fitted in.
I can rely on my car, it's my Roc!!!
