Hi there,
I always was a big fan of the rocco. two years ago I owned a 1.4 manual following a Gt Dsg-
I even bought some R parts for an upgrade, but then i got the chance to buy an audi S3 - it was prestigious and quite fast, at the same time the ride
felt lack of "feel", so i eventually sold it too.
This month i have a one time opportunity to get a nice deal on a new rising blue rocco R,
( it's very expensive in my country and there is little chance to get a used one)
On the other hand there is the new golf gti mk7 or other rivals - try not to be biased - need your help with decision...?
Is the rocco R that good? did some one test drove the new gti? does any one have other recommendations based on experience?
Thanks in advence,
Lior.

Re: need your help before closing a deal on the rocco R
Hi Lior,
To start i haven't driven the new gti yet, but I have recently purchased a scirocco r, I believe the handling is quite impressive, previously I owned a wrx with Kyb adjustable suspension and I thinks the scirocco would definitely have it around the corners, the scirocco just feels nimble.
Initial acceleration is a problem for the scirocco as it does stuggle at full power to get traction, that said from a rolling start its very fast
Hope that helps
Chris

Re: need your help before closing a deal on the rocco R
I chose a scirocco r vs another gti a few months back. I haven't driven a mk7 gti but i have been in a mk7 golf, and as nice as it was , it wasn't anything special, and having seen the GTI in the flesh suspect it will be similar to drive as my old Mk5 GTI, as it's aimed at the same market. To me the way my GTI drove compared to the way the scirocco r drives is the following
GTI flat torque curve, linear power delivery, safe handling, some body roll, and a sit on type feeling rather than sit in. I would expect less instability that the mk5 as it's slightly wider and less tall. The wider track should help handling and grip on the road. Things like a fully opening sunroof and some of the extra electronic features will be different.
The R is tuned more aggresively, both style and drive wise, gets more attention on the road than the gti, feels more planted on the road due to wider track at the rear, less body roll, power delivery is different, at 16-1700 revs the engine wakes up and you are off, I suspect the R would feel fast than the GTI , even if margins are tight.
If you intend to keep it for any length of time, the R will be much less common and possibly hold it's value longer if cared for. Also the styling is less likely to date.
Also for me, I didn't much care for an electronic parking brake, and stop start and the other constant electrical warnings in the mk7 ( , eg change up/down, look behind you, bing for this , etc etc, just too much going on.

Re: need your help before closing a deal on the rocco R
Hi there,
I've had my R about 2 months. I'm really impressed with it. I haven't driven any cars considered to be its rivals as all I wanted was a R. It's quick, grips forever and gets alot of admiring looks and comments.
One thing to compare between the GTI and Scirocco is practicality. Is a three door coupe practical for you or a five door hatchback? Probably the most important thing to do is test drive as many cars as you can. This will give you a better idea of which you prefer.

Hi Redpastyboy
Practicality isn't much a factor for me.
As for test drive - The dealrs in here are like "third world country" -they doesn't make test drives on premium cars.
I will try to make my post more focused:
My last car was audi S3 and before that was scirocco 2.0 GT -
The audi was very nice, but it was anemic; no engine sound, steering lack of feel, very heavy on low revs
In my next car i'm looking for more excitement and driving involvment ... is the R capable for that?

The 4wd cars like the s3can be highly efficient but as you say end up bland . For me the golf r was too bland when I tried it, The scirocco r was more fun because it needed to be driven and I felt more feedback. Modern cars can
