interlagos tyre size - 225/40/18?

interlagos tyre size - 225/40/18?

Hi guys,

Why is it that everyone (even vw) seems to fit 235/40 tyres to the interlagos wheels? My boyfriend is telling me that the wheel is 8j and so a 225/40 tyre will be fine? Has anyone else done this?

235/40/18 is the standard fitment from the factory hence why everyone uses that size.

An 8" wheel can take a range of tyre widths so we can only assume VW chose 235 as the optimum for the Rocco.

Narrower tyre - modification = insurance issue!!
