Post by Daddydub140 »

Is it possible to activate gear change indicator on mfi using vag-com(vcds)
I have white high line mfi and manual box.
If this subject has been aired elsewhere I apologise but I have had a good look
But can't find any thing.
Dave.

Why do you want it activated?! I find it extremely annoying! that's just me.

Anyway, there is no way to turn it off via vagcom, so I assume you can't turn it off that way either. I stand to be corrected though! I will have a look myself, when I get the time

^^ hahah :D

Update: I had a little gander in every module and couldn't find it. So except if it's hidden away in drop down settings, I dont think it's possible.

The late great RW1 even said it wasn't possible

Well thanks for looking dimexi but each to his own,
It's a pity some people make silly remarks before knowing the why
Cheers

Apologies if you saw my remark as being silly, it wasn't meant to cause offence.

If you do read back at my post, I did ask why you want it activated, before I said I found it annoying.

Don't want to cause offence but genuinely interested to know what benefit the gear change indicator is to a disabled person over an able bodies person?

Glad I didn't cause offence.

I will do some more searching later. It's quite interesting to see if VW have actually hard coded it into the system

@ Daddydub140 - I have done more searching on the web - came across a post by a rosstech representative who said it was not possible to deactivate via VCDS.

Another forum does reveal that the gear indicator option is under "advanced measuring blocks" in VCDS, but they didn't go into detail, and infered that it's not possible to turn it off still.

What build week/year is your car? You might be able to take it in to the dealers for an MFD software update, apparently, this could activate the gear selection indicator!

Hope this helps.

@Rocman - I found a post by some guy who used some electric tape to cover the indicator in his MFD!!!!! The things some people do. :D

I have a MY 2010 1.4 TSi with the white display and I found that the gear change indicator appeared after my Roc went in for its second service. So I presume that this was part of a firmware upgrade done by the dealer during the service.

Do you know of the severely disabled guy some years ago who had a Golf gti 4 or 5 mk reworked so that he could do so track time and normal driving well an former army mate of mine wishes to do same with a used Rocco and asked if I had said gear change indicator on mine as he would want it on if he got a Rocco

Sorry I should also have said he doesn't want a dsg or any form of auto box as I suggested

Thanks for the explanation and no I'm not familiar with that particular person.

i can understand him wanting it, if it's available but I don't see what benefit it offers over the rev counter on when to change, especially as it's optimised for economy. If it was a programmable shift light like what most modern superbikes have, I could see the benefit.

I was big into Golf Gti whilst in the army, and at the time there was this guy who had his golf totally reworked to accommodate his disability and I was explaining all this to my mate
and that's how it all came about, I have since been plaguing my local dealers for info and still none the wiser lol. still I'll take it as "No you can't.
Thanks and Cheers to you all
