Bluemotion vs TDI
Hi
Im looking for a TDI for my mrs. She likes the idea of £35 tax. However bluemotions are far more money for what I can see is only a few mpg and £35 tax. Whats the difference between a TDI and Bluemotion spec wise? Body work? etc.... How do they get the slightly better mpg? Seems the same bodywork as far as I can tell?
Cheers

Re: Bluemotion vs TDI
Blue motions are eaxactly the same as non blue motions except for mpg and tax. Equipment is the same. Engines are the same. Body shape and design is the same. I'd say its down to ecu and maybe turbos etc. blue motion is only worth it if you are doing tons of miles. If you aren't then just get a normal tdi. If you go on to the Vw website you can compare side by side the different model sciroccos to see exactly what you get as standerd.

Re: Bluemotion vs TDI
I have a bluemotion polo as my daily and as your all know body shape is different. So I was wondering what is different on the rocco bluemotions? as its nothing that stands out (My mother has a TSI rocco).

Yes I'm sure the blue motions have stop start. The shape doesn't change. They are exactly the same exterior wise.

Re: Bluemotion vs TDI
So its just mapping for mpg increase and co2 reduction?

Re: Bluemotion vs TDI
Not just mapping as start / stop will have an impact on economy and thus CO2 emission value

Re: Bluemotion vs TDI
As said above it would be down to mapping and stop/start aswel. Not sure if anything else would be different engine wise . I don't think there is though.

Re: Bluemotion vs TDI
I've got a Bluemotion and as far as I'm aware, the only difference is the Stop/Start function and the badge on the back.
Spec is exactly the same as any other GT model.
Power output is quoted as exactly the same as the non BM version so whether or not the mapping is different I don't know but I've driven both & couldn't tell the difference at all.
The £30 tax is very nice but we didn't set out to buy a BM, it was just the right car & spec at the right money - to be honest I find it annoying sometimes so override it (and do the same in my works Passat).

Re: Bluemotion vs TDI
The Sirocco is not a Bluemotion, but a Bluemotion Technology (BMT is sort of BM-lite). There are three differences (other than the badging) which contribute to the low tax banding - stop/start, regenerative braking and a eco gear change indicator. True BM vehicles usually have modified gear ratios, light wheels, different ECU mapping, tweaked bodywork, no (or lightweight) spare wheel and low rolling resistance tyres. The roc BMT was spared all of that.

First person that I've heard of who likes it! It's one of the most annoying features ever. I know when to change gears, and I know how to make my gear changes eco friendlyGriffspeed wrote:Oh yeah- forgot about the little gearchange light thingy.
