Buying advice and service schedule

Post by vr6dub »

Hello, new to this forum I'm a member on a few other Vw ones as I mainly have older vws.
We are in the market for a scirocco not to fussed weather it's diesel or petrol as we only do 4000 miles a year (weekend car) I'm swaying towards the 2.0l tsi in either manual or dsg. Have only test drove a dsg so far which I thought was good but not completely sold on it yet. With the budget we have most have around 35,000 to 45,000 miles on the clock. What I wanted to know is what milage the services should be at and when the oil needs to be changed on the dsg gearbox? Also if it hasn't been done in the specified time mileage and the gearbox gets a problem will vw still fix it under the 60,000 mile warranty?
I have read the evo buying guide so kind of know what other faults to look for.
Thanks Lee

The Scirocco, like many VWs, can be on 1 of 2 servicing regimes, longlife (variable) or time and distance. The former depends on how the car is driven and is variable up to a maximum of 24 months/ 18,600 miles (30,000kms). The latter, which is preferable IMO, is every 9,300 miles (15,000km) or 12 months. VW round it up to 10k miles.

The DSG oil and filter should be changed every 40k miles and as far as I'm aware, VW will not honour warranty or goodwill in respect to DSG issues unless it has been done.

Hey there welcome to the forum. Only new here myself but since I was just researching services last night some of what I found may be useful to you. I've found the following thread informative - http://www.sciroccocentral.co.uk/forum/ ... es#p111633" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; In particular RW1's replies which should answer your DSG oil change question ("6 speed DSG Gearbox oil at every 40,000 miles. (No service on 7 speed)")
General rule for intervals seems to be every 10k miles or every year. I've just bought an 09 2.0TSI with 35k miles and the service intervals are similar to this (first service after 12k, second 20k, third 27k with roughly 12months between each).

Ok so for example the one I looked at on the weekend had done 43,000 and been serviced twice the first at 10000 and the second at about 28,000 so next service would be due in 3000 miles but the gearbox should have been done 3000 miles ago, if anything were to happen to it would Vw get funny if it was done late. I know it's only 3000 overdue but just want to make sure. Apart from that I liked the car looked well cared for. How much do they charge for the service with dsg oil change? Thanks Lee

I believe VW would get funny. With servicing they allow 1,000 miles overdue so I would assume it was the same for this as well.

You are best to confirm with VW Customer Services on their policy.

DSG oil and filter is around £180 at a VW dealer.

Typical service cost is between £200 and £250 depending on whether plugs are changed.

The other thing to note is that the brake fluid should be changed at 36 months and then every 24 months thereafter. Cost is around £60.

Warranty is unlimited mileage for the first 24 months and the 3rd year warranty is up to 60k miles or the car's 3rd birthday, whichever happens first.
