Buying a new (second hand) Scirocco, advice please.
Hi
I'm currently about to trade my Corsa in for a Scirocco tomorrow and have a choice between 2 and would appreciate a bit of advice on which one.
The first is a white 2010 GT with 33,000 miles to quite a high spec.
The second is a Opal Pearl 2009 Standard model with 20,000 miles to an ok-ish spec.
The GT is about £1000 more than the standard, it's a year younger but has done 10,000 more miles.
In everyone's experience is 33,000 miles a lot? I currently do around 10,000 miles per year.
I'm torn between both but think I would prefer the GT, is it worth the extra £1000?
Thanks in advance

Defintely worth paying extra. You get bigger wheels, front fogs, Adaptive Chassis Control and I think a better steering wheel and trip computer. I could have missed some things too. But 33,000 miles isn't a lot for a 2010 car. You should be more worried if it had done only 15,000

Would agree it's worth the extra. What engine is in each?

Both 2.0 TDI 140. Thanks for the quick responses, think I will go for the GT, so much nicer inside aswel, insurance also works out a bit cheaper.

If you do a wee search on here, the general consensus is if you can stretch to it, the 170 is the better car to go for.sbull92 wrote:Both 2.0 TDI 140. Thanks for the quick responses, think I will go for the GT, so much nicer inside aswel, insurance also works out a bit cheaper.

170 is much better - i've had both! GT is worth the extra money too. If you buy a 170 it will be a GT (doesn't come in non-GT spec). 30 extra hp goes a long way on the driveability of the TDI.

Good points on the diesel engines. Would definitely go for the 170 if you can - the Roc is a sports car and will come alive with the extra power. Having said that you'll still love the car regardless
I was actually leaning towards diesel but after driving the petrol couldn't do it! Also the fact that the diesels cost so much more (both on the forecourt and price of fuel) and you really need to be doing 20,000 miles per year over several years to recoup the cost, I decided to stay a petrolhead. Glad I did as the 2.0 TSI can be very economical if take it steady

Re: Buying a new (second hand) Scirocco, advice please.
I use my car for domestic only as I work from home and live in the town. I do around 4000miles per year for my days out. My last Golf GT Sport 170psi was 2007 and I traded it in for my Rocco R this Feb and it had 21,000miles as the 2nd owner of it. It was used on a weekly basis, never flogged, had FSH and well looked after. I'm sure many people would have similar low millage use today, especially when many homes have 2 cars and some even commute on public transport yet still like to have their independence owning a car.RocMan wrote:You should be more worried if it had done only 15,000
I didn't need to sell the Golf privately as the private sales garage offered me exactly the same to trade as it was for a private sale.
My advice is just get an R and enjoy life that bit more. Car HPI is the cheapest loan ever available so go for it.

As said above go for the gt. worth it just or the better spec. Also will be worth more come resale because its a gt not standerd. Also as mentioned above if you can stretch that bit more try and get a 170.

Thanks for the advice everyone!
Got the GT in the end, so much worth the extra money, it's an absolute goddess on wheels!
