0-60 mph

Post by Macman »

It's said the DSG does this in 5.8secs but I feel when pulling away from a junction to join the highway it feels more like 5!
Could it be true if the XDS was acting less than a straight take-off thus not adding ESP braking to reduce torque steer?
It surely would be faster without the anti torque steer and whilst turning it would only brake the outer wheel and not both.
(also considering the car is faster on the road than on the dyno due to properly directed air cooling and warm tyres)

Official figures are to 62, VW sppedos tend to read 5-10% high so you are probably doing 0-55 times

Yes indeed but thoughts on there's less xds on the torque steer thus faster on a turn take off?

I'd be surprised if you could fell the difference between 5 and 5.8 seconds through the seat of your pants.

Isn't XDS giving you the best it can do in terms of grip so helping improve the times?

How can a car be faster on the road than it is on a dyno? It's not actually moving on a dyno, no friction on the rear wheels, no wind resistance, etc.

Feel is an important sense and where electronics in cars handling are removing. If I sense a change then there sure must be just that.

XDS only brakes 1 wheel for best grip on corners - its programmed to. This is without flooring it to spin in the first place but under a controlled take off in Sport. You wouldn't know when the XDS is braking to counter torque steer as only the ESP shows any loss of traction.

Re. Dyno, it's already been proved the car needs air to run for its best and even with drag resistance there's enough torque to make up for the difference. Just imagine 260 horse power at 60mph.

BHP has little to do with 0 - 60 times, I think you mean torque?

Why not use GPS and a stopwatch and see what times you are getting for your 0 - 60 of you doubt VW's figures but many magazines have done this using some sophisticated timing gear and especially with a DSG equipped car have reproduced the quoted figure time after times.

Here's a heavily tuned DSG R which probably does it in 5secs with 446HP and 549Nm and top speed 293,65 km/h (182mph). The Scirocco Mathilda GT-R1:
" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; (the one with the huge spoiler is 350ps)

That's tons of upgrades! I didn't think the K04 turbo could do more than 330bhp.

But this ones even faster! - the Supersprint R:
" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
