Need a little help... Disable Exhaust Flap/ITG bhp achieve ?

Post by Sam88101 »

Just brought a scirocco R :)
Hope these questions don't make me sound to silly
Can you take the exhaust flap pipe off on the left tail pipe and block it to make the car a wee bit louder, with no problems?
I have a ITG intake kit coming and a forge blow off value, remap will be done after its all fitted... What sort of bhp do you think I'll have?
I'm thinking MRC tuning for the remap?

Help :)

Thanks

around 300-305bhp as the limiting factor is your stock exhaust, ITG may not change the top end numbers but might improve power across the range

i'd just forget the blow off valve

Thanks, if I brought an after market cat back? Letting the car breath better and less back pressure???? Would that increase my bhp?

you appear to be having three threads on the go saying the same thing, the down pipe is the most restrictive part of the exhaust system, cat back may unleash some ponies but full tbe is way to go as you will be able to run a stage 2 file and around 320-330bhp

MRC have a good rep but not sure on their K04 tsi/tsfi tuning you also have the likes of APR and Revo

About that yes for Revo / APR stage 2 map. more for a stage 2+ map but then you'll need to go for a upgraded HPFP.
Considered sorting out the basic dynamics prior to adding a load power? e.g. engine/gearbox mounts, springs/dampers, brakes?

There is possibly an argument to plump for the mappers CAI e.g. Revo/Pipercross CAI with a Revo map or VWR/ITG CAI with an APR map.
The VWR closed filter CAI containing a ITG filter is exclusive to VWR and a Revo CAI using pipercross filters is exclusive to Revo both are very good but pricey.

I wouldn't bother with a fuel pump as the newer CDL engines have scope for better fuelling, Revo are working on this at the moment as my 35 is going back in, in reality the benefit for me is you can make same power with less boost soma far smoother driving experience

I wouldn't agree hole hart idly with the comments on CIA, Revo worked with ITG on a series of intakes before the VWR exclusivity deal, also on the closed filter the VWR back pipe is not the optimum set up ITG could make

A Revo intake is going on mine (we benched my stage 2 figures with an open ITG) as whilst the headline numbers aren't higher there are improvements throughout the rev range

Bothe are expensive, Revo is for ceramic coating and ITG has a lot of material too.

I would discount the Evoms either

There are plenty of powerful cars out there with no chassis mods, my 35 is on a stock VW file at moment and with the suspension upgrades is faster point to point than my wife's mk5 which has 65bhp more as it just handles so much better

Open filters and open bonnets on the rolling road may give some misleading figures, the air under a closed bonnet may be warmer especially if its around town driving.

A VWR closed filter will be pretty similar on the rollers and on the open road as the bonnet being open wont make any difference. It will still be prone to getting heat soaked if you're sat in traffic though.

Personally I'd assumed that over time the two main mappers would end up focusing map development work around their own intakes so whilst any decent intake probably delivers similar power today it may not in the future...

Any timeline on Revo informing dealers that stage 2+ on CDL engines does need a upgraded HPFP as my tuner was insistent on this before Christmas when I have zorst and stage 2 map fitted.

Intake wise I'm not sure that the ITG Maxogen (open filter) would ultimately deliver as well as closed or open guided filters as the supplied air guide does not allow flow from the factory intake position thus leaving the filter to have to rely on scavenged air which would make the intake more susceptible to heat soak particularly as the oil cooler is directly below. This probably wouldn't show up on open bonnet dyno runs...

The revo CAI really does look like a very nice bit of kit my local tunna has one fitted to their demonstrator. The supply pipe between the filter and MAF housing is a larger diameter than the VWR unit and more in keeping with the ITG, the air guide also directs flow from the factory intake position. My only real concern or criticism would be lack of heat shielding but the ceramic coating will help with this somewhat. The VWR kit is uncoated so more susceptible and the large alu can near to the engine won't really help at low speed with a hot engine. The VWR kit is noticeably quieter however.

If I had my choice again I'd have gone for the revo CAI rather than the VWR one I've got, but having not seen the kit at the time I opted for the then proven option. My point about chassis mods is that whilst you can add a decent amount of power without doing any chassis work this may not ultimately make the car much faster or enjoyable. Depends on the end goal really be that power, noise, handling or balance.

You pays your money and you takes your chance.

For me, Twintake / Twintercooler / Milltek CBE and Revo Stage 1 (original file) got me a max of 330bhp

Going back to a RR soon to see what the revised Revo file achieves

Well at least we no the missing ponies went into lasagne and burgers

Back to the heat soak debate I know the Revo intake has a ceramic coated rear section, not sure on VWR

I don't believe the rear alu pipe is coated, certainly it's not mentioned at all as being. I've wrapped mine with zircoflex sheet.
