High level brake light lens

Post by Kev »

I threw my shopping in the boot this morning and shut it only to see the high level brake light lens nearly fall out.

On closer inspection it seems it hasn't fared very well in the recent cold snap and has cracks in both corners and running along it.

Is that something you can buy as a single piece? Also, as I can't see any screw holes for it, does it just push in if I can get a new one?

Shaun's right....

- Switch off ignition

– Remove roof spoiler which needs the inside upper trim removed to get at 5 bolts in total (torque: 7Nm). Disconnect the 3rd light's electrical connector first though. When all is free, use a broad plastic wedge trim tool to release either short edge end (stuck down with a strip of adhesive tape).

– Remove the two bolts (Torque: 2 Nm) from the inside of the roof spoiler.

– Remove high-level brake light outwards out of roof spoiler.

mmm
I'll probably just tape it up and let them do it in the MOT in March then.

The MK5 Golf GTI and R32 high lever brake light is a common fault and also a spoiler off job.

It is possible to change it without taking the spoiler off and breaking the old one out. I would assume the Scirocco one is similar.

Its the same principle with two retaining bolts other than the part for the light is part no.: 1K8 945 087. Interestingly the part has changed for late Sciroccos post mid July 2012 to 1K8 945 087D
