Highways Agency Officer Confused by DRL
I was heading up the M42 towards Nottingham this morning and passed a highways agency vehicle. 1 minute later he was along side me with a sign in the window saying "Fog Lights".
Thinking there was something up, I pulled over and checked only to find it was simply the rear lights on as part of the DRL's and the fogs were definitely off. Now, judging by the amount of other newer cars with DRL's, I am guessing my car isn't that unique.

Got the say that pulling over on a motorway must be far more dangerous than driving with fog lights on

Re: Highways Agency Officer Confused by DRL
I missed off the fact that the M42 turns into the A42 after a while and there are parking lay-by areas on it. Doh!
I can see the headline now "Scirocco driver killed on motorway after Highways Agency staff mistakenly informed him that the rear fog lights were on his car when they were, infact, DRL's as directed by the EU, and he got out to check"

Yes that's just the type of headline I was imagining.

It's so tempting to carry one's own sign to hold up in reply. "Directive 2008/89/EC, amending Council directive 76/756/EEC" and see what he makes of that

Funny but a bit concerning that the people who are supposed to enforce the rules don't know them.

Too right mate. Work has dropped our pence/mile rate so the fastest i ever go in work time is 65-70mph to save fuel

I had a few minutes to spare yesterday, so emailed them and got the following reply:
"thank you for contacting the Highways Agency Information Line regarding the Daytime Running Lights, I have passed your email onto the Operations Managers responsible for traffic officers in the region to make sure everyone is aware.
Thanks again and apologies for the inconvenience caused to you".
Job done!

Re: Highways Agency Officer Confused by DRL
I think the DRL's are a good feature I just wish that it was only the front lights on rather than looking like your just running with the lights turned on. It would be good if the car could be recoded to just run the dim headlamps like other VW's do. The auto light feature is pretty much redundant if the lights are always on anyway?
