Post by Nick1 »

Currently having a bit of a problem with my scirocco, it won't go into first gear. It did it once last week but I thought the problem had gone but its started again today. Has anybody else has this problem?

I'm taking mine in sometime this week hopefully as the problem hasn't fixed itself. Looking forward to having a polo as a courtesy car

Every so often, I have an issue of mine whereby I can't get it into first when parked and left in reverse, or the other way round, can't get it into reverse when parked and left in first. I usually find that taking the car out of gear completely, foot off the clutch, put the car into another gear such as second solves this.

I have had this with other cars that I have owned as well (VWs and Fords). I know at some point in the past I had an explanation given to me why this happened, and although I can't remember the reason, I do remember not being too worried about it.

It's "feature" at least on the gear box we have. I've had the same problem for two years and while it doesn't occur that often, it's still annoying and they couldn't do anything about it at the dealer's. Shifting to second before shifting to first helps sometimes. Third is nowadays also a bit tricky to get in, which is even more annoying and occasionally there's also a crunhing sound when downshifting to second at ~60 km/h. I've been told the syncros might be worn out, but I couldn't get them fixed under warranty (said they couldn't find anything wrong with the car) so I'm just going to wait and see if and when the gear box breaks down.

Mine started a few weeks ago but fixed itself when I put it into reverse first then back into 1st. It has a times been not going into gear properly but I didn't think anything of it until it wouldn't go into first at all. Took it in on Tuesday and they rang up yesterday saying they're replacing some parts and it should be ready for pick up tomorrow, going to ask them what was wrong with it then.

I honestly can't believe this but it's happened again. Now it's making an awful grating noise while reversing and isn't going in to 5th properly. VW have also refused me a courtesy car because they don't have any polos in, taking it in for repair tomorrow.

I absolutely adore this car but I doubt I'll be getting one again.
