Re: Will having air conditioning on zap power?

Thanks for the feedback. I normally have the air con on because it stops the screen misting up in the winter and is nice in the summer. I don't notice the power drain to be honest but I think I'll stick with my minor ocd of turning it off if I'm overtaking someone crawling along on an A road... just...

Will having air conditioning on zap power?

Hiya, just wondered if anyone technically minded knows if having the air con on uses some of the hp from the engine? I know it increases the fuel used so I am assuming it does...

Or if you floor the accelerator does it temporarily switch it off?

Cheers, Matt

DCC and uneven tire wear

Since switching to driving in Comfort mode all the time (my house is surrounded by bumpy A roads) I've noticed that the uneven tire wear that I was seeing on the inside edge of the rears - a sawtooth effect) has disappeared. I'm surprised and think that maybe it's due to something else as I can't im...

Boot popper openers

I'm on my third replacement set of these now. They keep cracking and flying off. Is this normal?! At the moment I'm having to press the key fob until the first opening noise and quickly opening the boot by hand before the second noise, which seems to 'lock' it again. I don't slam the boot so wondere...

Re: Acid wash + plastic wheel nut covers = unhappiness

I just got some off eBay as well - only £10 so hopes not that high! Also just spent the last few hours trying to respray the wrecked ones in a deep orange colour... not entirely sure what my thinking was there - maybe that I could have one standard set and one 'jazzy' set for going to car shows etc!...

Re: 2.0TDI 140 MPG

On the motorway doing 70mph on cruise control I normally get over 60mpg on long journeys - in fact I'm getting a bit obsessed about trying to get over 60 on every motorway journey now! If I drive on A roads it's more like high 40's - low 50's if I'm just following the flow of traffic and a lot less ...

Acid wash + plastic wheel nut covers = unhappiness

First time I've ever taken my Roc to be washed by someone other than myself and I'm not likely to do it again. The wash they used for the alloys got them nice and shiney - but ate into the plastic nut covers and have ruined them (see attached) - mostly because the guy applying it was a bit spray hap...

Any way to test if it's been remapped without rolling road?

I'm going to GTI International on the weekend of July 6-7th at the Shakespear County Raceway. I *think* my Roc has already been remapped by a previous owner but haven't had it tested on a rolling road etc. So, my question is - I know that there will be stands there offering remapping but would they ...

Demisting and inside ice!

I know that you need to put the AC on to demist (is that a word?) the windows but I've been greeted by ice on the inside of the windscreen these last few days. I've a mate with a golf GTI who has the same issue. I only ask because I have never had a car that had that before. Is it a VAG thing or do ...

Re: What did you do to your Scirocco today?

Let someone else wash it for the first time - they did a good job but was worried the jet washer would do some damage. Looks great but wont last long in this weather!

Re: My headlights will not turn off

Hey everyone, I seem to have an issue with my headlights. When i completely turn them to the '0' on the light switch they still stay on where as all my dash lights are off. When i put them to my dimmers the headlights turn off. When on auto they are always on... Please advise if this is a setting o...

Do you have any funny 'rituals'?

The kind of thing that I mean is - I never accelerate hard until oil temp is up to 80 degrees C. Even if it's 79 and I want to over take... I wait. I also always leave the volume knob with the power icon pointing up. If someone turns it up, I turn it back and use the steering wheel controls to turn ...

I'll leave as is then. Unsightly but not as unsightly as ghosting. Off topic I know, but whats the standard speakers like in the car? I'm not huge audio freak but like a decent sound. If crap what's the best options for upgrade? Normal speakers? Under seat sub? it has the media unit which has the 6...

Re: Does your Roc still turn heads?

Mine does, only if it's been washed it seems! Yesterday a delivery man called with a parcel and when I opened the door he made a joke that he was from VW and was here to pick up my car as they were all being recalled. Then he asked about how it drove etc for 5 minutes. ;) Quite a few people say it's...

Wheel centre cap corrosion - covered on warranty?

I'm sure I've read a few members saying that they've had corroded centre caps replaced on warranty but my VW dealer say that they're not and want to charge me 32 quid for 4 new ones. Any advice?
