Cheers mate. I'm being patient, thankfully the guy buying my Z4 is happy to wait for me to source a good replacement.

Have posted a topic, ideally I want a 170 with leather/heated seats and parking sensors for under 12k, anything else is a plus :) Don't really want more then 70k miles.

Doable?

Mines up for sale! 2012 R Line TDI 170 DSG in Viper Green. 37500 miles, brilliant mpg, plenty of go, really good condition. You'd struggle to find better for the price! Looking to sell rather than PX so I can put more deposit down.

Yes, but it will take some time ...

I paid £10k for mine with one private owner, FVWSH and 90k miles, fully spec'd out. The mileage wasn't an issue for me as its been used as a motorway muncher. :)

Slightly over my budget and I'm after a manual unfortunately, but a gorgeous looking car otherwise!

You don't want a manual, try the DSG you'll never go back. Manual is so 20th century!

Hmm, never driven a dsg actually. May test drive one if there's one near by.

Yours is still above my 12k budget mind haha, as lovely as it is!

DSG can be driven like a tiptronic box pushing forward or back on the stick. Also use paddles, right to change up and left for down. Manual change can be done whilst in auto to override gears or shifter can be put into full manual. When you shift down the engine will blip to match revs which sound great! Amazing tech and much faster than manual 0-60. Everyone should drive one, very few would go back.

Yet another question from me I'm afraid.

I'm not ruling out Roc's without Nav from my search even though it's a must have, on the basis I can retrofit it myself...

Is there a particular part number for the head units with Nav? Are there different levels and aftermarket/OEM?

Ideally I want a headunit with DAB, Nav, an SD Card slot for Music/DVDs and if possible phone capability?

Oem units are
Rns315 basic nav unit. Latest models have nav bluetooth sd card slot and dab radio.

Rns510 has nav and bigger screen also has bluetooth, sd card , aux , cd player, dvd player.

My car has 315 model and is decent but would prefer an Rns510.

There is a version of the RNS510 that has a DAB tuner. To achieve Bluetooth with the RNS510 an external OEM BT module is required.

Kenwood do a VW OEM unit that has all the features highlighted and is one of the cleanest solutions.

Something like this? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-RNS-510-LE ... SwJcZWeRC0" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Just a case of plug and play, or will it require all sorts of coding/tuning?

It is important you try both ... I did before I bought mine and preferred the manual. I've since also driven a new R-line with DSG fitted a couple of times and it is very very good but I still wouldn't change it for my manual. Both have pro's and con's and the DSG is not 'much' faster than a manual either... There is something like 0.2 seconds between it so in the real world means nothing.

One thing about DSG, to get the best out of it, you be prepared to change your driving style. It is brilliant but it does have a few nuances and quirks.

Also, the DSG requires an oil and filter change every 40k miles, so check it's been done if you decide to go down that route.

Not sure what nuances and quirks you have had, I drive mine no different than previous manual cars. Much easier to consistently drive quick, off the lights foot flat to the floor in sport mode = big smile!
