Re: Courtesy car Hit n Run
VW will have the car covered as it may get stolen for example on their forecourt/land then would they just right it off, of course not. It must insured by them.

Re: Courtesy car Hit n Run
Yeah they will have it covered , but the fact they are saying you were covered on the car via your own policy , which i'm most likely not and also the service manager has said im not insured through VW makes me think,
He said im not covered through VW and i can't be covered through my policy..
I guess ill just see how it goes tomorrow a4gee , hopefully it will be ok, wish me luck
, Im just thinking of valid points i could make.

But without witnesses or proof he can't prove it was someone else that drove into him therefore he can't claim under 3rd party.a4gee wrote:If you weren`t insured to drive the courtesy car then does your insurance state you can drive another motor vehicle 3rd party fire and theft?
Usually you get that included with fully comp policies nowadays? So if you are then I would think you are covered by your own insurance? It will go against you in your premium though for the future of course but if VW wants to go through insurance then that is their right. At the end of the day they are doing it by their rules and policies.

Re: Courtesy car Hit n Run
mmmm true enough
but I still believe you`d be covered but just have to pay for the damage.
You need to see what you`ve signed.
If you haven`t been covered by your insurance(which I`d of thought you should be to own a Roc) you will need to pay them or face 6points and a fine from the police?

Re: Courtesy car Hit n Run
To add to Cuprabob's post above. You can't claim against uninsured drivers etc if you don't have an inkling as to who/what hit you, otherwise plenty of people would just claim against the uninsured drivers part of a policy (if you have one that won't affect your no claims - such as Directline).
For you to make a claim against a driver that didn't stop or was uninsured, you'd have to have either:-
1. Witnesses who saw it happen.
2. Give a partial or full numberplate and/or description to the police as soon as possible.
If you can't demonstrate that a third party hit you or show that the damage sustained clearly shows that someone will have hit you (directionality of scrapes etc) under assessment then you have to claim fully comp.
The Dealership's insistence that Candyboy was insured under his own policy to me says that the person who let him drive off with the GTD cocked up sorting their cover for him or has another motivation such as ease of resolution of repairs or as a license to inflate the repair cost as it won't be their own insurance coppuing for the bill and they can insist where it is repaired.
If Candyboy wasn't told he was insuring the car himself then he should insist that everything goes through the dealership's insurance. If the dealership has cocked up on insurance coverage then there might be some leverage to sort the repair out with a more reasonable bill to avoid going through VW's insurance and avoid the person at fault getting a major arse kicking.
Candyboy - to know where you stand, you must get a copy of whatever you blindly signed. It will tell you whether you were accepting to insure yourself or whether you were accepting the terms of their insurance (such as agreeing to excess levels in the event of a claim etc).
Look through what you signed before you do anything else. If they refuse to allow you a copy to read through properly then something fishy is going on at their end (such as they arranged no insurance nor got you to declare your insurance was going to cover you).
If they made no arrangements to insure you, nor got an agreement in writing that you were insuring yourself, you may have the (slight) upper hand in negotiating repair costs as they've cocked up. If that is the case, I would tell them that they've been negligent and have unwittingly allowed you to drive without insurance. At that point I would be looking to pay no more than the excess on their policy in repairs that don't go through their insurance at worst case , and at best case be paying the average of 2 or 3 quotes for the exact same work that you may be able to get done for £500-800. The manager might agree to that to save themselves an arse-kicking.
I would make it clear to them that if they have cocked up and you are now getting penalised for it then you will not be buying a car from them again nor using their facilities for warranty work or servicing.
In your situation with age and insurance grouping of your car, I do consider it very unreasonable of them to provide you with a car many insurance groups higher than your own and expect you to insure it yourself, unless they were willing to pay the additional (and presumably significant) premium.

Re: Courtesy car Hit n Run
That is the best outcome. I assume no insurance notification was made as everything is being paid for by you. That's a fair price for a painted new bumper.
Did they admit you would have been insured under them or that they messed up in not providing insurance properly? What was the mystery document that you'd signed?

Re: Courtesy car Hit n Run
Yeah i think from when they started off saying it would be around £1200 a few days ago to £570 isn't bad.
Do you reckon thats a good price? They said they've included a discount.
Yep my excess is around £700 so it was either pay that and face a claim against my name or pay and its got nothing to do with insurance.
And yes so basically , On the form i signed it says, You are signing this document opting to insure yourself on your policy , something along those lines. You should inform your insurers. But from there i started saying i didn't get a copy and i didn't get informed about this on the day. He came out with you don't receieve a copy and had nothing to say about why they didn't inform me.
Hense that's why i think he started playing around with the price, not sure though. BUT ALWAYS CHECK THE CONTRACT lol. I started saying how could i drive your car fully comp , if im fully comp on my roc , i can only drive any other vehicle 3rd party. He couldn't reply with anything sufficient.

Re: Courtesy car Hit n Run
Well after a month ish, the body shop advisor i was dealing with has been off since they gave me the quote, and since then i have called up to pay but they say they will call me back, when they do they say they'll call me back again and again, then i dont hear from them...
Im considering not paying at all now due to the fact that its been a month. They dont seem to liase with me or anything..
What are my rights as of now....
( not a problem paying , if i can get out of it , why not

Re: Courtesy car Hit n Run
They will eventually call, but i should have some sort of option as not to pay wouldn't i
..
The car is probaly already repaired back on the road, i havn't signed anything to say im going to pay which the service manager said i should do, the body shop advisor said dont worry about it.
Just wondering as i have the money set a side, but i could do with putting that money to a remap or something!
