It seems this is also a beta version not officially released as yet. http://vwnavi.com/showthread.php/14226- ... 3806/page7" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;182_blue wrote:It looks like FW 3810 (i have it) is out now which should be the version that just updates the unit and doesnt wipe the HD etc

Re: RNS510 Updating and Experiences
Finally got round to updating the maps to V7, it's a modded version with speed cameras and extra petrol stations etc but actually thinking about going back to 6.1. Main reason being a majority of the speed cameras on motorways seem to be missing. A roads are all good just national speed areas.
As I dont have the version C RNS510 I don't get the 7 digit postcode anyway so don't think I will miss this update ... Should have waited for 7.1 especially as it took twelfty days to install the map data

You dont need a C version you just need firmware over 2680, what do you have ?juniorbanks wrote:Finally got round to updating the maps to V7, it's a modded version with speed cameras and extra petrol stations etc but actually thinking about going back to 6.1. Re: RNS510 Updating and Experiences
Sorry mate i was told you need the Ver.C (with the star icon) to get 7 digit postcode.
Not 100% sure on the firmware as i dont have a VAGCOM, but i believe its still the old 1100 / 1102 version. I looked into doing the 2660+ FW update but people reported bricking their units ?!
What is the latest FW available for a Ver. B 510?

Re: RNS510 Updating and Experiences
Is there no "free" way to find your unit version? I took mine to dealer and the guy there said that he would have to take everything out which he doesn't want to do 'just in case'

It's free if you have VCDS, I assume you have tried powering the unit up whilst keeping hold of the set up button for a while ?Ryy wrote:Is there no "free" way to find your unit version? Re: RNS510 Updating and Experiences
So I found the sheet they gave me @ the dealer. I'm pretty much stuck and really don't know if to upgrade to v7 maps yet now
"VAS 5052"
Engine code: CAWB
Model Year: 2010
Description Scirocco 2.0 Sport 14
Technical product info
Service info: radio-navigation system RNS 510: SDHC card not recognised
Release date 04-Dec-2009
Customer statement / workshop findings
SDHC memory card not recognised. The selection of "SD Card" is not possible. No files on the card are shown
Technical Background
Contrary to the owner's manual the playback of the SDHC memory cards with a size up to 32GB is not possible (radio-navigation systems with index up to B). The system can only play SD cards and SDHC cards up to a size of 2GB
Production change
Modified hardware with index C - planned from week 45/09

Warranty accounting instructions
The owner's manual is incorrect. A parts replacement does not fix the problem and is not justified. This is no fault in the sense of warranty.

Re: RNS510 Updating and Experiences
If the dealer gave You that sheet, then You probably have a version B as I have. I have installed FW 1300 and map 7 without problems. Havn't tried UK zipcodes...

Re: RNS510 Updating and Experiences
I dont want to play with the FW though as I KNOW it will bugger up and I'll have a brick. I will try just to whack v7 on. I think I do indeed have a dreaded vB

Bricking is generally contained to stolen units that have been modified to overcome the key code lock

I would still stress that it is very possible to brick a genuine unit, this happened to me..b0rk wrote:Bricking is generally contained to stolen units that have been modified to overcome the key code lock

Re: RNS510 Updating and Experiences
Have never heard of someone bricking their RNS when installing production version FW.
(like 1100, 1200 or 1300 for the revB).
Many have bricked their revB trying to put beta FW 2662 (ment for revC) on their revB
(though some have succeded).

Re: RNS510 Updating and Experiences
Ditto. I personally I stay away from the beta's for this exact reason, however I recall a recovery cd being produced by various vwnavi members that could in most cases recover a bricked unit due to beta or incompatible firmware.
IIRC RevB fw1300 supports 32gb SDHC cards, thus is safest firmware to load onto a revB unit.

b0rk,
Could you PM a link to that s/w? I'm totally new to it so would need to look into it deeply.

Re: RNS510 Updating and Experiences
I just got given a courtesy car for a couple of days while the fix the sensor that failed on my Scirocco. The Golf I was given had a sat nav unit in it, clearly some numpty didn't install the disc because the unit kept asking for the disc in German.
Anyway, what my question was relates to the colours on the screen, the unit had a silver and red colour set to it. Does this relate to any upgrade? Or just the chosen language? The screen seemed somewhat clearer or it might have been my imagination. I will try and get a picture of it before I hand it back this morning.
Also as discussed in other threads, and didn't really want to post another thread again - if you change the Bluetooth module from the old Rsap one to the one that works with most phones you lose control over the steering wheel functions from the NAV, however this car has the bluetooth enabled with the the Nav system.
So how is this possible?

Re: RNS510 Updating and Experiences
Unlike the RCD510, the RNS510 screen colours can be changed in the diagnostics (using VCDS). It's done in the Long Coding in the Navigation Controller - 37. VCDS carries the options, so no need to guess which bits to set (Byte 7, Bits 4 & 5). Three options to select from.

Re: RNS510 Updating and Experiences
The bluetooth box and nav unit need to be coded together simply swapping the boxes results in loss of functionality... anyway the RSAP module is now discontinued and replaced by a HFP unit. Assuming the correct version unit and rns fw then with VCDS Telephone – Controller 77 code as 0000422yellowplum wrote:if you change the Bluetooth module from the old Rsap one to the one that works with most phones you lose control over the steering wheel functions from the NAV, however this car has the bluetooth enabled with the the Nav system.
