RCD330+ upgrading from RNS315

Post by edwheels »

Hi all - I know this has been discussed in various topics before, but looking the answer to some some questions to a potential install which hopefully someone has done before and will help others in my situation...

Reason for changing - have used TomTom Go for Apple IOS on my iPhone for years. Many disagree, but I think this is the best Satnav / Traffic solution. Now TomTom Go for IOS is available as a CarPlay app, so I really keen to install Carplay into my Scirocco. I have MY13 version with the RNS315 system installed - no reversing camera or sensors. It does have a usb socket in the armrest though.

My questions are:

1. Can you just swap out an RNS3145 for an RCD330+ ? I have no reversing camera or sensors or Dynaudio speakers - just a plain old RNS315 with a USB port in the arm rest which can connect to to an iPod etc.
2. Steering Wheel buttons - will they just work?
3. If I sold the Scirocco, could I just swap them over again to revert to standard? Would special codes be needed to resintall the RNS315?
4. Do the volume controls (rotary dial) illuminatte on the RCD330+

Finally - I know I would lose DAB - this is a shame, but not the end of the world - Is the FM on RCD 330 radio OK (compared to other FM radios out there)

Any other pitfalls - fault codes which may appear, blutooth issues etc.

Thanks so much for reading!

RCD330+ upgrading from RNS315

I have just purchased one from Aliexpress

Cost of purchase with delivery was £240 I was then charged £64 for import tax 20% vat and £24 handling fee by Uk customs. Not the end of the work but worth pointing out

Also be away of drop shippers claiming to be uk sellers. You will still be hit with tax

I went for this unit Noname Carplay RCD330 RCD330G Plus 6.5 MIB 187B SW 5406

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/3285241 ... 3b8bY56gMm

The unit was plug and play. I lost info about media in the MFD but knew that would happen.

Park pilot visual and audio work perfect.

No climate graphics but knew that also.

CarPlay is brilliant. Definitely worth it.

Phone calls are crystal clear and Siri is spot on.

Steering buttons work

Illumination works

If you need any more info happy to answer[emoji6][emoji106]

Sorry to jump on an old post, but my Daughter has just bought a 2014 Scirocco and I am looking at this replacement head unit.

Can you confirm if Apply CarPlay is wired or wireless and if music artwork shows up on CarPlay apps such as Amazon Music etc…?

For that unit it is wired not wireless. Art work shows as expected as does all CarPlay features.

You can get wireless units not but a lot more expensive.

Thanks for this.

Would a wireless CarPlay adapter plugged into the USB adapter for the media outlet in the centre armrest fix this issue?

I can’t answer as I no longer have my car. But in theory it should. Hopefully someone can confirm this.
