Re: GT upgrade to an R?
I'd take the R.... But then I would say that. Will it e that much faster than a chipped GT, probably not, well not until also chipped. The suspension as I recall is a notch firmer than the other ROCs so R's comfort is GTs Normal. Apart from the styling differences I don't think there's too much in i...

Re: Servicing questions..
Unless its been driven like the accelerator was made of egg shells I'd be amazed if an R could go 20,000 miles without a service. I didn't even manage 10k before I needed tyres and I don't consider myself to be too hard on it (no track work etc).

Re: Lugano & DCC
Strange as it was supplied factory fitted. Perhaps it's a non-R thing or a historical thing?

I've a R, with 19" rims as supplied by the factory. No issues.
Re: Tyre wear
I'm at 12k and need the fronts replacing about now.

Evo 181 inaccuracy
Evo 181, p73.
Scirocco R listed as having 310mm solid rear brakes.
I don't know what they were looking at, mine are ventilated like the fronts.
Anyone got an R with solid rear discs?

Re: £1300 on a new crank after it leaks oil... what?
You'd have to read the small print of the extended warranty to find out what your entitled to. If that doesn't go your way, your next possible option is to demonstrate negligence during previous fixes. Unfortunately if all were right in the world, you'd be covered since a) you'd paid for a warranty ...

Re: Anyone had any issues with their folding mirrors ?
I've never managed to get the hang of mirrors. The left one dipping for reversing and the fold unfold. Can never get it to do what I want. One day I'll work it out.

Re: Just tested a MK7 Golf and a 1 series BMW Coupe.
Once had a BMW 1 series. While midrange grunt was fine servicing costs weren't. The proactive (when it runs out, change it) servicing meant I seemed to be at the dealership every few months, and strangely always cost an awful lot. Over the 4-5 years I owned it I wouldn't say the durability was anyth...
Re: ACC
I'm with the others. Suspension is obvious and I'm pretty sure it changes the steering weight. But I think that's it. Would have loved a button to switch gearbox to S, and ACC to sport... But it's not to be.

Or you could buy a GTS - then walk shouting loudly while carrying a small stick. Bizzare.gibbsy wrote: I'd rather walk softly and carry a big stick.
As per the R-Line I don't get why anyone would buy this.

Re: Why no USB outlet on the dash?
You can see from my spec, I've the 510 rather than the 315.
I can't recall exactly what swayed me, but I'm pretty sure it was things like the DVD player, onboard HDD etc. that I don't think the 315 has/had. But I might have been wrong.

Re: Auto heating setting
If you're talking about what I think you are, it's the auto heat/cool/air thingy.
You set the temp with the dial, and it'll use it's sensors to decide where to blow the air, how hard and how warm, to get you to the temp you selected.

Re: Why no USB outlet on the dash?
Smoke and mirrors is how they justify the price.
The better units aren't just "SatNav", they have extra interfaces, storage, options etc.
No one would pay 800quid for the satnav alone.
I think

Re: Why no USB outlet on the dash?
But if they make it too easy for you to use your own SatNav/Phone system, you won't buy their SatNav.... and that wouldn't be good for their business. That, I'd suggest is the primary reason why they've never done it. The secondary will be safety: they'll suggest that by putting a connector up there...

Re: Factory fitted Reversing Camera now available!
I have a reversing camera on another car, and in a few instances I'm glad I've also go the parking sensors:
1) The camera gets dirty, and so very hard to see
2) At night. It's a high-gain camera, but it's not night vision.
If you can, I'd suggest both.
