Possible mechatronics failure

Hi guys, recently I sent my 58 plate Scirocco Gt tsi into the garage to have the main shaft oil seal replaced. I also noticed the car was struggling with shifting gears when hot (dsg) I was advised this would be the dual mass flywheel, so I also had this replaced along with a dsg service for good measure.....

The leak has now stopped but my shifting issues are slowly getting more prominent I have done some research and it seems like the mechatronics unit could be failing. Possibly entailing another hefty bill which right now I’m not sure if I can afford to stomach after spending £1000 in the last month and hoping the issue would be solved

Would the car be worth selling with this issue or is it on the verge of being a big pile of red scrap It’s got the panoramic roof and has done 98k and generally is in very very good condition, barely a dent on it, with a few spots of lacquer peel on the front and rear bumpers

Any opinions or suggestions would be greatly appreciated

If the issue is the Mechatronics Unit, there are companies out there that can repair and refurbish them for a few hundred quid. Ecutesting is one such company.

You really need to have the DSG scanned by someone who knows what they are doing to confirm what the issue actually is.

Thanks for the reply! I’ll try and find a transmission specialist in the area who can scan it for me. The problem being is if it does turn out to be an expensive fix again, I can’t afforf the repairs and would need to shift the car on regardless

I understand but it will be very difficult to sell a car with a DSG problem unless the price is low enough for any potential buyer to take the risk.

You could take it to WBAC and hope they don't notice the issue and see what they offer.

Thanks again I think wbac will offer around 3.5k which is probably 2k below market value at least, however this is what I fear I may be forced into

Personally id get it repaired.

Once the mech has been repaired the car is pretty much bulletproof......Apart from then tensioner of you haven't already got that done..

I haven’t had the tensioner done, I was assuming this engine is on chains and fingers crossed they won’t need doing...... If they did I think I’d be finding the nearest bridge and dumping the car over the edge and probably jumping after it

My problem now is now finding a garage in suffolk which I trust to do the testing etc, without paying dealer prices

You'll have to look on good and see if you can read the reviews. Correct, these engines are chain driven. There is a replacement tensioner which is worth upgrading to.
