Hi fellow roccers,

I am looking for advice on the probable cause of a wet footwell after recent weeks of heavy rain.

My Scirocco footwell got mould on the floor lining in the following 2 areas, particularly on the front passenger side
[*]Carpet/insulation close to the Rocker Panel
[*]Carpet/insulation in the footwell, close to the front wheel arch

Not knowing where the water came from, I tried to rip apart the carpet/insulation. What I found is the insulation is soaked wet only on the red region in the below image. Other parts of the insulation seems very dry.
I guess it might be because one/more of the below:
[*]Water leak from firewall
[*]Air con condensation from around glove box
[*]A leaking sunroof
[*]water ingress from door seal

The top part of the footwell feels very dry. However in the above image, there is an unknown opening (circled in green) I do not know if water can be coming from there or not.
Any hint on what this opening (circled in green) in the footwell is?

From the attached image, there isn't any sign of water. The pollen filter is dry.
I cannot identify where the condensation water tray/tubing is, so I am not sure if I can eliminate this cause totally. Leaking Sunroof
Lightly spraying water on the open pano sunroof, it seems that water is drained down to the side of the windscreen (green arrow), but not via any drain tube inside the A-pillar. By spraying a stronger water hose on a closed sunroof, I eventually found water leaking into the A-pillar, dripping down to the side of the glove box (blue arrows) all the way to the footwell. Unable to find any drain tube, I tried cleaning the seals (colored yellow in above image) and found lots of gunk underneath the seals.

Is there any drain hole/tube to the A-pillar from the pano roof?
If not, how can water gets into the A-pillar, or does that indicate I am having a leak in the sunroof somewhere

I am unsure if this is the real cause, any advice is appreciated.

Just an update after being checked by a mechanic.

1. There is no drain tube inside the A-pillar. The water is drained down via the side of the windscreen (green arrow on the image in the first post)
2. They took the pano glass off, and the A-pillar lining, and found leak and rust.

Mechanic diagnostic:
They will need to take the entire pano roof off to find the leak... can be the seal, or something else. They were afraid this might damage the windscreen as some parts might have rusted. I did not proceed

My guess:
the seal might be the issue (part 1K8877423 roof frame seal). However I might not have the skill to remove the entire Pano roof to change the seal without damaging other parts.

Workaround plan:
As I suspect the leak is from a bad seal, and likely from v thin cracks (or else it shall be raining inside the car). I was trying to find a sealant that is very thin and can flow into v thin cracks. I just ordered a bottle of captain tolley's creeping crack cure, and will try to see if this extremely thin sealant would creep into those tiny cracks and get it sealed.

Had same issue with mine,turned out to be flexihose supplying rear screen wash,,flexihose had split
