Hey all,
First post here as I've just purchased a used 2010 VW Scirocco! Have some questions about the entertainment system.
It seems to have the RCD 510. I'm guessing this works with Spotify absolutely fine. However I'd love to get CarPlay running in there. After checking out the new Scirocco's, they offered a £100 upgrade to allow the onboard device to use CarPlay, so it sounds like a software upgrade.
Is anyone aware if the RCD 510 will be able to be software upgraded to also run CarPlay?
Of course the other option is to buy an aftermarket unit but I'm concerned about how compatible these are with the rest of the system on the car.
What's everyone's thoughts?
Thanks!

Re: Apple CarPlay upgrade in RCD 510 possible?
Unfortunately the RCD 510, and RNS 510 for that matter are not upgradeable for CarPlay - i also doubt they ever will be as they just don't have enough CPU grunt.
They are both very old hardware designs which have barely changed in the last 7 years.
VW have finally released a replacement for the facelifted cars that are still on the golf mk6 platforms (new scirocco & beetle etc).
These units have all new hardware and a software interface similar to the discover models found in golf mk7 platforms (MQB).
These newer units are what carplay either comes with or can be software upgraded to.
So far attempts at fitting these units in older cars on the golf mk6 platform have failed, but i think someone will eventually work it out as theoretically they should work (just might require upgrading some modules like the gateway and also getting the theft protection lockout to work)
