1st Longlife Service, Recall Notice & DSG glitch

Hi All,
My car has gone in for its first service today with roughly 18,600 miles on the clock. The car deserves a new bath of oil
Got a decent price from VW Chester of £180, plus they collect & deliver which is very convenient.
While it's in the garage they will undertake a recall notice to:
Update software to the engine management unit. I've asked them to detail exactly what this is but they were a bit cagey. Said they'd have to ask the Manager if it was okay to tell me what recall code it was? How very odd as it is MY car after all. Hmm
Will update this post when I get the recall code so others can identify exactly what the software update does.
Lastly, I'm having them look at a glitch which has developed in the DSG box. Basically when you're in Sport (S) mode and floor it from standstill the DSG hits the rev limiter in 1st gear and kills the power. Very irritating! It should not do this. As it's a DSG transmission the next gear (2nd) should already be pre-selected and smoothly engage. Does this sound like a faulty mechatronics unit?
Any help welcome.

If there is a recall, its very very recent .... like in the last two days. Did your service last year include the engine ECU 24s4 workshop Campaign? There should be a sticker in the boot under the carpet like this -
24s4 sticker. If your service was before October 2010 or not all since new, its likely it wouldn't have been done and they are playing catch up. (24s4 is the major rectification map upgrade for misfires on the 1.4 160PS).
Does sound like the mechatronics. There is also a DSG upgrade to that ECU floating around which quickens the gear changes so don't be surprised if that happens while they are fixing it.

Hi Chris, the car has never been serviced from new. This is its first service.
As the car at the VW dealer I can't confirm any stickers which may or may not be in the boot ;-)
Hopefully they'll update the DSG ecu while they're at it. This may solve the DSG glitch. Right? I hope so as if the problem is deeper they may need to replace the mechatronics unit.
Will keep this thread updated with any codes and info as I get them.
Thanks
Gaz

UPDATE:
Just had VW Chester on the phone with an update. They said a technician has been out in the car and run a diagnostic on the DSG and found no fault. How annoying!!! They're only other suggestion was to leave the car with them for 2-3 days to keep looking for the fault. No good for me as I need the car.
No overly happy they've not been able to find the fault with the DSG. This is always the problem with an intermittent fault
More updates soon.

2nd Update:
Can confirm Warranty update to Engine Control Unit 24s4. What does / will this do?
Plus, as RW1 pointed out they put a sticker in the boot under the carpet next to the spare wheel.

24S4 - (Initial firmware map issued as G5859(man.)/G5860(DSG) in September 2010. 24s4 revisions subsequently G8913, G9256 & G9660 for DSG. 0888 then 1676 for manual gearbox.)
Alters the ECU map for knock sensor coding errors, fuelling at various rpm/load conditions and has an upgrade to improve the cabin heating output during warm-up in summary (heating mod. in latest issues only of ECU firmware standards - 1676 for manual and either G9256 or G9660 for DSG). Today G9660 will have been loaded into the engine ECU.
Driving 24s4? You may find for the first few days the engine is a "little different" as the ECU recovers from the update and finds its new settings. In your case with the drive to work, it should do it in a day's round trip.
Hopefully they'll update the DSG ecu while they're at it. This may solve the DSG glitch. Right?
No.... just warning you that the DSG may behave differently when the Scirocco returns.
(The only way to really tell definitely is to look at the firmware standard using VCDS.)
