Couple of things...

Thought I would put everything under one post, finally got my 19"s back today and put them on the car, as I was doing so I noticed a few things and thought I would obtain clarification.
1. The tyre pressure monitor didn't bong when I replaced the Winter Tyres to the 19" Summer tyres, but it did the other way round; can you test the tyre pressure monitor without letting air out of a tyre to see if it will beep at you?
2. Front fog lights, can someone tell me if there is a gap around the front fog lights? It seems I have a bit of a gap and wondered if that relates to the fact that the bumper was resprayed and it wasn't put back on properly?
3. This is more that I am cheesed off I noticed that when the bumper was resprayed they must of pulled it off quite hard and cracked the inner plastic that surrounds the wheel arch as it was stuck together with duck tape. Not best pleased about that, so will be having words and making them replace that.

Did You drive 60 miles at high speed?

Stage 4: Educate TPMS for learned values
Just drive the Scirocco. It takes about 60 miles at various speeds upto 70 mph driving for the system to fully "learn" as it does with the TPMS button factory option. If you only do urban driving it will take a lot longer, about 550 - 600 miles. It needs at some point to see a higher rotational speed for a while to complete.

No I haven't and probably won't as round trip is usually only around 50 miles each day. Bizarrely I changed to the winter tyres and it binged immediately however changing back to the summer tyres it didn't complain, hence why I asked if there was a way to check that it is still functioning correctly.

Just looking back through your posts.. your winter tyres have a smaller rolling radius than your 19" stock wheels (2032.92mm vs 1964.44mm) so yes the tpms would have gone off as it would acknowledge than the rolling radius was then less than the rolling radius it was set at (the 19's). So to go from your winter tyres back to your 19's it wouldn't be set off as the rolling radius increased, the system needs resetting otherwise you could be in a sticky situation where it does not alert you to a pressure decrease as its running on the learnt rolling radius of the 17" winter tyres.
The system may be clever but you have to tell it when you have changed wheels Or altered tyre pressures by resetting the system, don't just change them & leave it.

I think you misunderstood - I would always retrain the system, however what my point was that it didn't go off when I changed them so I was a little suspicious. I have subsequently retrained the system with the 19s - my question was if I could test the system to make sure it is functioning correctly as it hasn't gone off and am dubious if it is functioning.

The only way I know you can check is with VCDS using the measuring block values in certain fields of controller 03 - ABS Brakes.
In this
post in the section with blue text. If it has reset itself, then the three values will be below the calibration "acheived" level (Measuring blocks 230,3 230,4 & 231,3). Early on, two of the three fields are "0000". And the calibration field 231, 4 will not be at the value of 2.

Typical, think I may have to end up buying VCDS then to be able to do all these things...

It is a very useful toolbox spanner for all sorts of things

Did you get yours from the UK or direct from the USA? Which cable is it I require for the car? I'd have to get another laptop for it, only have a MAC Book at the moment (and that isn't mine either).

I've had 3 interfaces since May 2000 from Ross-Tech. 2 are still use, one of which is pre-CANbus interface. I have two dedicated laptops. The last one I bought for £35, a Toshiba Satellite Pro 4290 in "as new" condition and rebuilt it with Windows 2000 & max memory about 9 months ago. VCDS is not demanding of the processor nor does it use a lot of hard drive space.
The older laptop with the pre-CANbus interface is using a Toshiba Tecra 510 with Windows 95. This unit is truely a dedicated "spanner" in the boot tool box of one of my Sunday cars.
If its just for Scirocco III and you have no intention of using it on other VW's (& VAG Group cars) then
1 -VCDS with Micro-CAN Interface will suffice.
If its intended to use with Scirocco III but also other VW's (& VAG Group cars) particularly older models with non CANbus controllers, then consider
2 - VCDS HEX-USB+CAN Interface
or
3 - VCDS HEX-COM+CAN Interface
I have the latter, option 3 - HEX+COM+CAN as I do data logging and can get more frequent recording points.

Yes there is a gap. About 6mm on the inboard side and 3mm on the outboard side. Both top and bottom arc gradually close from 6mm to 3mm.

Thanks for that, now I just have to go back about the damaged inner cover, probably get the usual 'no not me guv' response.
