Spark Plugs are consumables. . . . .

3500miles and the R needed new plugs. . . . . .

Car has hardly been used since late last year, when the last real use was on a RR session where it pulled cleanly, fast forward 3 months, not even 200miles use and the car had developed a hesitation at 4000rpm+ under load, ie accelerating in 4th gear upwards. Did a few hours logging looing for misfires, signs of the ecu pulling the timing, boost etc etc, nothing obvious to be seen. Quick bit of research and S3's have had similar issues for a few years, cured by plugs/coilpacks, so bought some NGK iridium plugs, stuck them in yesterday and fault cured! Car running/pulling better than ever aswell.

Worh keeping an eye on, as the oem plugs looked fine when removed. :)

at Revo yesterday kev confirmed that on some S3 engined car's there does seem to be an miss fire at certain points in rev range (stock ECU) as well as post remap.

They do know about it and are trying to work round it. But it doesn't happen on all cars.

but i can confirm mine seem to have it too, so i hope the remap next week doesn't make it worse. Was hoping it was a fueling problem due to the intake/cooler/exhaust so remap would iron it out. But it seems its a deeper problem with hardware somewhere.

Mine still had the fault when putting the map to stock parameters. As mentioned, nothing being picked up by the ecu. Just seems like a plug issue.

A local boy who works at the VW/Audi dealers is frequently changing lugs in heaps of different models of VW/Audi's with TFSI / TSI engines all for similar faults, on both mapped and non mapped cars. I'd strongly suggest throwin another set of plugs in your car if you have the prob. The NGK's were only £21 delivered off ebay.

Wigit had his plugs changed yesterday at Revo too.....it's bonkers now he says :D

he's had iridiums in there for 40k miles tho, and it was a bit burnt and coked up. think Revo put stock ones back in!

so yeah will see how it runs. They'll be logging the car anyway during the remap so if they see it's not right I'll give them the go ahead to put new plugs in.

and to add to Chungsters comments only on two vehicles was it found to be a map problem, the others were all hardware related problems.

Revo also borrowed a Leon Cupra from Seat UK for a few weeks...could not replicate the problem at all!!!!

Andy as a matter of interest what were the stock plugs you took out?

I swapped by OEM plugs at 30k as they didn't like the Stage 2 development file and switched to the NGK Iridiums (cracking price by the way)

i've noticed a small miss on the GT and in reality late last year we thought it wasn't as full on at brunters, this time i thought it was coil packs, when i checked them there was some lift, at Revo they checked plugs were at correct torque and no apparant pressure issues all be it they were shot after 15k, all be it the car has been rattled to sh#t recently given roads

the latest Bosch OEM are colder and what Revo and a few friends running two plus have been using so now in and car is far better 4k onwards,

you have to laugh how long VW say they last, moving forward they will be swapped every 10k

06H905611 - Which after a quick googl appears to have a bosch equivalent FR6KPP332S which makes it a grade 6 plug.

The NGK's which i just fitted are BKR7EIX (2667), grade 7.

Tons of them on ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... K:MEWNX:IT" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Interesting, fuel consumption is better by 2-3mpg on the exact same routes i was doing last year, and the rear exhaust pipes are definately not getting as black as quickly......

Andy at what mileage / age do VW schedule the plug change at on a 2.0 gt. Is it not something stupid like 60k? Are the genuine plugs not expensive because of that ? Might be a job needs looking at shortly.

No idea off hand what the replacement schedule is.

But at £20 a set delivered i'll happily change the NGK plugs yearly if needed, although i'm hopeful they will last much longer.

60,000Km (37,000miles) on the R engine. Which puts it around a 40K service point

2.0Ltr TSI (200/210PS) is 90,000Km (55,0000) so part of a service around that point.

What were the plug gaps like on the outs and did you gap the new ones?

C.

Product Type Part No Stock No
Recommended PFR7S8EG 1675

This is the plug listed for a 2.0 gt from the ngk website. No sets of these going for 20 pounds. Probably just as cheap to get them from the dealer.

Just put some iridiums in then.

(moved here) The spark plugs weren't needing a change until 60k. I read here somewhere the R eats plugs so what is correct?
...
(update)
I was told my R needed changed at 60,000 miles at full inpection service.
The supplementary service leaflet holds the facts stating that it only needs changed at 40,000 miles after 4yrs else its 60,000m.
