Possible fault with (7sp) DSG

Hi all,

Just thought I'd float this one by you.

Recently I've discovered a problem with my 7 speed DGS box. Let me explain.

From standstill select sport mode on the DSG. Floor it. The auto box quickly changes up to 2nd gear. Then it redlines at around 6,500-6,750 rpm. Now instead of smoothly moving up into 3rd I get the rev limiter kick in and the power dies before it will shift up into 3rd. Very annoying as it should be one smooth process.

Does this sound like a fault. Any help would be much appreciated.

I'm loathed to take it in to the stealers because I'm sick of going there. I had a nuber of problems last year. One a fault on my engine management (defect break servo that wasn't) and another was mice eating through my turbo pipes. See old post http://www.sciroccocentral.co.uk/forum/ ... use#p63420.

Cheers,
Gary

Your twin doesn't do that .........

Sport Mode selected, foot floored.......

1st Held to --------------------------->>>>> 6,500 rpm
2nd Snap change 4,800 rpm and --->>>>> 6,500 rpm
3rd Snap change 4,800 rpm and --->>>>> 6,500 rpm
Seamless!
Ran out of road after that :D

Drive mode is the same other than peak rpm is 6,000.

Can't imagine 2 days previous on the production line and 296 Sciroccos earlier, there would be difference.

Sorry chris there seems to be some confusion.

What's happening is Sport mode isn't normal. This is a fault that's only just started happening.

Say I'm at a set of lights.
I then select sport (S) on the DGS box. (I'm not in full manual just Sport)
Next I floor it.
1st held to about 6,500 rpm
2nd shoots upto 6,500 rpm but doesn't automatically change up to 3rd.
What happens is that the rev limited kicks in and power dips right off (must be to save the box from exploding!)
No seamless change.
Then 4th
Then 5th
Then 6th etc...

So, something is wrong on the seamless change between 2nd and 3rd gear.

Do you recommend I take it into the dealer to look into it or wait until first service?
Can they diagnose?
Could the DSG box have developed a fault?

Any help welcome.

Thx, Gary

The auto box quickly changes up to 2nd gear.
Ah, I reacted to this as though you meant it changed up immediately at low rpm as it does with a light foot acceleration.

That said, the change 2nd to 3rd is a snap change at 6,500 rpm and just keeps going like 1st to 2nd change at 6,500 rpm. Get no dip or slowing. Figures above were Auto Sport mode. (manual, whats that, the paddles :D )

Can you get down to M&S at Handforth Dean on the A34 on your way home one evening? Could stick VCDS on and have a look to see if there are any faults for you.
