Dealer Problem\New Tyres

Hi everyone,

As you know I was looking for my Scirocco R a few months ago and bought one from Wayside in St Albans.

One of the things I forgot to check was the tyre treads because I stupidly assumed they were going to be new. After 2000 miles of me owning the car (5500 total) the 2 front ones are starting to get very bare and will need changing soon. As they are the R runflats (Continentals) They will cost about £250 each! Surely changing tyres after 5500 miles is below the minimum of what continental state and I should have been given tyres in better condition. The mileage I do is all motorways with a tiny bit of city driving. On my Roc diesel the tyres were at 16000 and still had a great tread on them.

Do I have any grounds to complain (I am currently thinking of complaining to the dealership anyway as I have been waiting for a set of mats for 2 months now and whenever I call the dealer its the usual case of "we don't care about you now you have bought the car off us" which is something I have experienced with Wayside VW with both my Rocs.

They also convinced me to take out tyre insurance so this might help me in my quest. What do you recommend?

where are the best place to get tyres, how much would continental 235/40R18 95 Y Contisport Contacts 3 be?
They are the special CONTISEAL seal healing tyres.

Thanks.

There is no way a dealer would even begin to entertain you requesting they pay for worn out tyres. As far as they are concerned you could have been trashing the tyres.

I also doubt you'll find any tyre manufacturer that will say a tyre will last X number of miles......!

So you did not check the tyres when you bought it ?

I did check them really quickly, and the tread seemed to be of a low-medium tread, but I did not use this (stupidly) as a bargaining tool to get money off, although I did in other areas. I don't thrash the car around, my miles are all motorway! and im not really the boy racer type. The Roc Diesels tyres were good at 16k miles and still going strong when I had it/

Sorry but i don't think you have a leg to stand on.... a powerful front wheel drive car will get through its tyres a lot quicker for very obvious reasons so i'd expect less mileage from them.

Have a look on blackcircles.co.uk for cheap deals.... I wasn't aware they were runflat though, just a bit clever?

Must of been proper thrashed as a demo then that car!

My experience with wayside is to never use them unless I really have to. I'd rather drive the extra 20 miles to my own dealer.

I've done 13k miles and the original dunlops still look good! :)

I've never heard any good comments about run flats, regardless of what car it is. Dunlop Sport Maxx GT's are about £185, life is decent enough on the road.

The contiseal tyres are not run flats, as you can not drive on them once deflated. You do not need to fit contiseal, normal tyres can be fitted such as continental sportcontact 3's, Michelin pilot sports, Dunlop sport maxx, bridgestone etc...

Your issue will arise when you actually noticed the 'fault' with the tyres and when you reported it to the dealer. How did you pay for the car? S.75 applies if you took out any form of credit or paid for it on credit. Unfortunately the problem arises not that the car had 'faulty' tyres but when you actually noticed this and when you advised the dealer of this issue.

Some information on S75 can be obtained here - http://www.oft.gov.uk/shared_oft/busine ... oft303.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

^^^^^^ my view also.

Buying a used car, checking state of the tyres is one of the first things i'd do. Gives u an idea of if the car was looked after etc.
