Now the winter weather is here, although this has anoyed me for a while, is it possible to stop the passenger window from dropping when you turn the ignition off and remove the key? Not a good idea when the windows are frozen

I have selected drivers door only in the MFD, but guess this is only for when you unlock the car.

Does anyone know if it is possible?

spooky, I was just thinking the same, my mind wanders a bit when out for a long cross country run, and I was thinking about ways to prevent windows seizing etc.

I made a mental note to take a look with vcds later, although i suspect not.

How did VAG get the frameless window cars thru winter testing??

I wish there was a way to stop it too. A couple of times since the big freeze my passenger window has stayed slightly open after locking the car. I have to get back in , switch on the ignition and raise it up.
Then it needs a reset before the auto down function will work again (hold button down til window down and vice versa) It's only the little "door opening" drop but in this weather you soon notice the icy blast as well as snow ingress!!
Back in the summer I came out one morning to see both windows down 3 inches or so. Luckily hadn't rained !. When it was serviced I mentioned this to the dealer and they disabled the function where you hold the door open button on the key and the windows and roof open fully. It hasn't done that since .
If this persists it's another trip to the dealers me thinks

It is quite anoying. It is bad enough just on the driver side, but the passesnger side doesnt need to drop. in fact, neither door needs to drop really, as it drops when you pull the handle anyway.

Use the mfsw and in the set up you can set the central locking so only drivers door unlocks second press on the button passengers door unlocks

Works on mine wigit. Mine drops only the driver's door window only if set that way but..........

Can't find anything to stop it doing both when the ignition key is pulled out of the steering column. Nothing in the passenger door controller unit either to make a change thro' diagnostics long coding or adaption to overcome this aspect.

The only thing I've been doing to avoid this the best I can is pointing the passenger air vent toward the window top. On my half hour journey to work it does enough to melt any ice.

Of course, getting in the car press once, only the driver does come down, so that's the only cringing part is when I open first thing in the morning.

I have it so only the driver door unlocks with the remote - problem is when you remove the key from the ignition.

Like Ryy suggests, I have the vent blasting against the two side windows all the way to work to defrost it. No good if you are dropping someone off after a few minutes though, as the door has frozen up again.

When I switch off the ignition and take the key out both driver and passenger side windows drop down. Is there anyway that the passenger window drop can be inhibited? I had a quick look at the various functions available on the MFD but couldn't see anything obvious

Help would be appreciated. Thanks

Cheers Trix. I never noticed the other thread as I'm trying to do too many things at once here. My office is shut at present due to the snow and general travel problems up here so i'm 'working from home'

I could be wrong here cause i only have my car for like 2 days, but I think if you turn off the auto lock function,
that setting where the car locks itself when you start driving. It should stop the windows from dropping when you remove the key.

Why is this really a problem?

I opened up my car in -24,5 degrees two weeks ago, no problem at all?

As for the window staying down, I belive you can just hold the lock button on the key fob. Haven't had to use it for quite a few months

I'm pretty sure this is more of a problem in high humidity cold weather. As the air is pretty much void of water particles in - 20 centigrades and below, this wont be a problem.

It is a problem for me, as my window has been frozen pretty much everyday for the past couple of weeks. It isnt a problem defrosting the drivers side and driving, but if I am only doing a short distance, and stop the car and remote the key, the passenger door tries to drop too, which isnt much good when it is still frozen solid.

On the other hand, it annoys me anyway when both doors drop when I remove the key, especially as the window will drop as soon as you pull the handle anyway.

I had this issue and had to get in, ignition on roll up drivers side from inside and get out passenger door!! Silicone all the frame and bottom window rubber helps but messy (and stinks as its fragranced!)

I end up using a half car cover covering the windows all round and roof areas........... or could kick van out garage and keep it nice and warm! Agree with Chungster - how the hell have they got through winter testing in whatever climatic conditions its the cold it reacts to not just frost........

Even worse is the problem isn´t new.
It is the same on Audi A5, Audi TT Mk1 and 2!

Bit late to this thread I know, but picked up my new roc last week and set the key to unlock both doors! Went out to car at lunch time & unlocked with the plipper, both windows dropped slightly... no problem there, got in and shut my door, my window shuts instantly, no problem there... then suddenly a load of water (obviously pooled on the roof) pours in the passanger door window!! The problem being that because no one got in the passanger side and shut the door, the window that side took a couple of seconds to shut, allowing time for a cup full of water from the roof to pour in!! I have now set the key to just unlock the drivers door with one press in the hope that this cant happen again. Obviously when I let a passanger in (using two key presses) the window that side should close instantly when they shut the door! This doesn't solve the problem of the passanger window also dropping when the ignition is turned off, but obviously at the end of a journey any water pooled on the roof should be gone!

Can't for the life of me understand why the windows are programmed to drop when the doors are unlocked and when the ignition is turned off after a journey... Just doesn't make any sense! Surely they could make the operation identical to the 3 series coupe where the windows drop as soon as the door handle (or interior door latch) is pulled!!
