I was having a squiz through the Roccopedia, and found a reference to the engine code in the Roc as the EA888, which is the 211PS engine used in some of the new Audis. It generates more power over a wider range, and also quite a bit more torque (350Nm instead of 280Nm) than the EA113 used in the Mk5 GTI, in the Audis at least... The fuel pump is also rated to a much higher pressure, which I know was always an 'issue' for people tuning Mk5 GTIs.

Anyone actually know if VW are just dumping this engine straight in, or are they detuning, downgrading it at all?

Those aren't specific engines, they are a family of engines.

The specifics are determined by the engine code, in the scirocco case CAWB

That makes more sense, but what are the differences between the engines normally? Is it just the map, or do they vary components too?

this was on another forum, cannot vouch for accuracy so feedback appreciated

a list of the engine changes the new TSi engine has over the Tfsi that we have

New TSi engine has:
- Name changed from FSi engine (fuel-straight injection) to TSI or Turbo Straight Injection. Same thing different name
- timing chain, no more timing belt
- balance shafts in the block
- pulley/gear/crank multi-piece
- 4 lobe cam with roller follower
- Fuel pump runs off the exhaust cam
- Different layout of the cams in the head
- different tensioner setup at the back of the head
- the new Engine management system med12.5. Much more advanced control strategies and some new surfaces that make calibration so much more powerful!
- Fueling is much, much better for lot's of reasons. More pressure for one, new pump, roller follower and some other stuff...
- variable valve lift in the longitudinally-mounted Audi engines (e.g., A4/5, Q5; but not A3, TT, GTI/GLI/Passat/Tiguan).
- New air intake setup, no more engine cover/airbox combo
- oil filter and oil dipstick relocated
- improved PCV system
- Compression ratio lowered to 9.6:

Good info! I didn't realise it was that re-worked.

We have an A3 with the 2.0 TFSI and although i can't give the 'rocco the beans yet (still running in) ,it seems to have more low down torque and be smoother than the older one.

The 350Nm applies to the variable valve lift engine in the new Audi A4, apparently its too tall to fit under the lid of a lot of cars, shame cos its a quick car and delivers over 40MPG on the combined cycle.
My roc made 209BHP and 211lbs/ft of torque on the dyno, thats with a Milltek Cat Back on, pretty similar to my old GTi in stock trim however the reworked internals lead to lower C02 emissions and better MPG, I am getting 4-5 more per gallon then on the same journey in the golf. It is also almost identical performance wise to the GTi in stock trim as I timed a full throttle roll on from a fixed point at 40MPH (tom tom GPS reading) to another marker half a mile or so up the dual carriageway and the speed at the second marker was only 1mph different. I would also say it feels a tad less powerful than the golf although it was remapped for the last 35000 so perhaps unfair to the roc.
Taken delivery : Silver, DSG, NAV, Black Leather, Park Sensors, Winter pack.

Mods: Full Milltek, KW lowering springs,Wheel Spacers, Remapped to 258BHP, 405Nm
