Scirocco Central

Hey Everybody,

I got my new 1.4 scirocco 1 week ago and I love it!!! Car drives like a dream

I have to admit at first when i got into it I though how am i going to drive this car... rear visibility is horrrible!
But it takes a little (VERY LITTLE) getting used to and now I can't imagine driving another car Plus, I am still to see another one here in Italy
They really did a good job with it all the little details are amazing!

I just have one question. The fuel consumption seems a little high... in the city I only get around 23-25 mpg (UK) and on the highway like 30-35 mpg.
I have been really carefull not to go over 3k rpm during the first 1000 miles (yeap I can't get out of it). I read that a new engine is likely to consume more while it's
breaking in but these figures seem really far of from what volkswagen has in the specs... Just curious if it's normal or should I have my dealer check it out?

Your fuel consumption sounds about right to me, depends how much of that torque you're using below 3k revs, if you're just tickling the throttle then you might expect a bit more i guess. I've been averaging 31 in the 2.0 TSI while running it in, on the route i'm doing, which consists of a few miles of twisty c-road (probably comparable to city stop-start fuel wise) then onto an A and b roads for the rest of the journey. That's a record for me, definately the most feul efficient car i've owned for years, i'm really impressed with the efficiency of it actually. Expect it to drop significantly though once it's run in

The rear visibility isn't that bad if you make good use of the wing mirrors, which are very good. I stupidly didn't get park sensors on mine so i'm having to make good use of them.

The parking sensors turned out to be an awesome addition. Definitely take out the guess work when parking, but I agree the side mirror are really good and compensate for the minuscule window in the back.

How long did the run in on yours take? I'm still at about 1200 miles, so I guess i'll wait a little before I go complaining to the dealer and then again it's significantly better than my previous car which only averaged about 20 mpg if driven very very gently...

Mine isn't run it yet, only has a few hundred miles on it.

I don't think the MPG will change significantly once it's run in. It sounds like you're getting pretty respectable consumption to me, the manufacturers figures are near impossible to achieve in the real world.(unless you want to drive painfully slowly and carefully)
