Questions about DSG Control

I am going for a test drive of a 58 plate GT 2.0 TSI DSG next week. I have a couple of quick questions regarding the DSG box:

1) Can you move the stick between "D" and "S" whilst on the move or does this have to be a stationary selection?
2) Can you move the stick between "D" and "+/-" whilst on the move?
3) I guess you can use the paddles in "D" and "S" to override the auto. Does it then revert back to auto if you stop using the paddles?
4) Can you only use the stick to change gear of you are in "+/-"?
5) If you stop using the stick to change gear in "+/-" does the auto take over?

I realise these are daft questions, but as I have never driven an auto before, I could do withi knowing.

Many Thanks.

1. Yes you can change on the move
2. As above
3. After 30 secs it reverts back to auto
4. Yes the stick bit is the +\-
5. Yes again, the auto feature always lurks in the back ground so will stop you stalling etc.

Hope this helps, appologies for the short answeres but it's a pain on the iPhone.

also, under 'stick-shift' it auto downshifts annoyingly, which means when you appraoch a roundabout it can drop down to 2nd gear. when its clear, you accelerate and end up revving the testies off the engine.

I only use the semi-auto mode outside urban areas.

You can also pull in the right paddle for a couple of seconds to turn it off.

Don't think it does. You'll just be back to paddles.
Basically if you move the stick over to +/- you can use either the stick or the paddles. To go back to auto D mode you would need to pull the stick back over to the main gate.

I think the auto takes over if you reach the redline or if you come unto a stop, I'm guessing that's what he means by taking over

At redline in manual it won't take over and upshift, you'll just keep bouncing off the rev limiter.

Maybe that is the case for the R but it's most definitely not the case for the TDI. With the stick in +/- mode the box shifts up at the redline and will downshift when it feels the need.

I know this because I tried this earlier today, from a standing start in 1st - stick over to the left in +/-, foot to the floor the car happily changed gear with no intervention from the stick or paddles at the red line and I soon myself in 4th gear and the Transit van which had been sat on my bumper well and truly in the distance
